At the expense of sounding arrogant, I liked Lynch from the start. As an analyst he came across as a thoughtful, honest guy. Plus, he came from Stanford. At the time he played for Stanford, you didn't get in there, even if you were a very good player, if you were not pretty bright.
We needed the anti-Balke as the front man and Lynch was that from the first news conference.
Time will tell but there is nothing not to like right now, IMO.

Don't think that makes you arrogant. I still remember finding out about the hire with an alert from the 49ers app on my phone and I legit did a double take to make sure it was actually the 49ers app and not some joke thing. Only because how out of the blue it was. But after a quick google to see it was legit honestly I was just fine with it.
I wasn't thrilled but given the options at the time I was going to give him a chance. I liked Lynch as a player, I liked him as a commentator and first person to come to mind was John Elway and the success he had in Denver. Then the more I read and saw the more I liked it. After they hired Peters from Denver I went from being neutral about it to thinking this could be a really good hire.
Obviously we still don't know but so far I've been very impressed with that John has done and VERY impressed with how he's handled himself and how he's helped the franchise have a very quick turnaround as how the organization is seen across the league IMO.

The hire was shocking to just about everyone. They had kept it all quiet. Coupled that with his inexperience. So everyone was --WTF!
The interviews were nominally on track up to that point. That's a lot of trust from Jed of Kyle going with Lynch. Going beyond the norm.
I think in the end, his intense passion for the job and wanting to turn around the Niners to the top, was too great to ignore. I think Kyle recognized it and so did Jed. Don't think you can get that from the usual GM candidates.
Even more surprising is the way he threw his hat into the ring. A goofy phone call to Kyle Shanahan. Was it just that or did he already lined up his ducks on who he would hire if given the job...

Yeah his personality is a breath of fresh air. You can tell he's smart and understands football. He's not arrogant enough to think he can make all the calls and be the sole reason for the turnaround (that can be the downfall for a ton of GMs)....he's brought in some very bright football minds....Smart people surround themselves with people that will make them better.
Dude really is captain America lol

I was with everybody who was shocked. I was thinking he's got no experience. Then I find out Kyle got him on board with Jed and Paraag. Then I knew Jed put Kyle in a position of being the HC/GM because of the fact that Lynch hasn't had experience evaluating talent the way a normal GM hire would have had. It's Kyle's show, and I think that's a good thing. John is there to help him, but John doesn't have the experience to override an offensive choice by Kyle, and John has played at a high level defensively which I think is great because John can be a good sounding board defensively for Kyle. On top of that, you will get Darth Mike in the background looking over his Sith pupil Darth Kyle.

Lynch has proven how important a positive image is in building up a franchise. We will never know how much of all this is him directly and how much is Peters, Mayhew and the rest, however, in the end it doesn't matter. What does matter is the Lynch, with KS alongside, were able to attract quality FO help and keep Jed happily out of the limelight...and what is not to like about that.

As someone else said, John Lynch has won the PR battle and won 9er fans over. That is half the battle.

I love this kind of stuff..
Bring back all our Champions...
Give them a total communication line to the current team.
Mentor and involved as much as possible.
WE are ALL one San Franciscan 49er...

That's freaking awesome. Lynch is certainly delivering on his word to connect the current regime with the legends.

I like how lynch is bringing in old players to interact with the current 49ers roster
