And we were right.

I like the Lynch hire. I am a bit worried about the fact that he has no GM or player personnel experience, but I think that's a positive. I think because of his inexperience, he'll cede a lot of his power to Kyle. The previous regime's GM structure in Harbaugh, Tomsula, and Kelly - the GM was just too powerful.

He did damn good in FA and the draft.

having a GM who knows they need other's input in a VERY positive change.

My hope is the cooperative relationship lasts longer than that between Harbaugh and Baalke. I'll be paying close attention to the personal dynamics between the two. I'll be paying close attention to any rumors or leaks saying Lynch and Shanahan having issues like losing the locker room, or one or the other being rumored to ask for more control. We shall see.

My hope is the same, and it is likely we will have a much better situation. These guys are not going to create the drama of a Harbaugh or make the terse and cryptic remarks of Baalke. They are both bright and seem to be well rounded humans. As great a coach as Harbaugh is, he is also lacking in social skills, and that hurts him long term. For a few years his enthusiasm and energy overwhelms everyone, but then he begins to create angst...whether justified or not I have no idea. It could be that he would be great if given the keys to a team, but he wasn't so...next NFL job?
John seems like a good guy
The choosing of Lynch to do a breakdown of the 49ers "breakdown" was long overdue, but we somehow ended up wiht two crackerjack guys, both embued with football running thru their veins, who are both football nuts...they live it, eat it and breathe it. The fact we landed two incredibly enthusiastic young guys, both virgins at the top spots, still seems incredible. Both have long histories of association with NFL greats, and in Kyle's case, he started as a young ball boy. How perfectly odd that he should return to where he first got the bug...the football bug where he puts football above all else...and here, amongst the 49ers of yore.

In times past we had F.O problems wiht Noln and owners , just outright bad hires in a number of HCs that somehow wandered thru the HC position and giving us nothing in return. I just don't see any disputes arising between kyle and john, altho anything is possible. These two are of a similar mind, and we are the luckier for it. Even tho both are well prepared i expect some problems this yr, mainly because this is the first time for both. But both are smart guys, and we can assume they will get over the upcoming hurdles, and pitfalls.

I cannot think of another franchise I would rather be watching this yr than our own. How it plays out is going to be a fascination a minute. It would be nice to see Hoyer make it uninjured thru out the yr, but that may be asking a bit much. EVen then, John and Kyle are somewhat prepared for that happenstance, altho quite sure neither wants to go thru it. This is the one best start we have had since the ownership change in 2000 or so.

Yeah, I noticed that about him. But you look at Bellicheat and he doesn't have the greatest personality either. I think, personally, that he cultivates that demeanor to intimidate anybody not on his team. Unfortunately, Jed was not considered to be **on his team** and treated Jed accordingly (I think). And he was right, Jed sided with Baalke. Harbaugh isn't scared by anyone, and he could care less about kissing the ownership's a*s, and you can say that may have hurt him vs Baalke, but if Jed was stronger and more perceptive, he wouldn't give a rats a*s if his behind got kissed as long as his HC won playoffs and superbowls.

Harbaugh's next NFL HC gig, he will have total control of player personnel AND coaching, otherwise why leave Michigan anyway? For him to not have total control is for him to not be in total charge of winning. And he's not going to settle for just being paid a lot of money to lose.

I don't know Kyle well, but just reading about him belies his calm demeanor and amiable personality. I think he's as fiery as Harbaugh, but he's not obnoxiously outrageous like Harbaugh was simply because he didn't' have to. JIm's brother John has great people skills and probably (of the two) I think Jim's the better coach vs John, but it's that Jim had to differentiate himself from John and behave outrageously. As far as I know, Kyle is Shanahan's only son that is following in his father's football steps and never needed to get his fathers attention the way Harbaugh needed attention. I just hope Kyle is just as good a coach as Jim Harbaugh, but like you said, maybe with a bit more political skills than Jim had. Hopefully Kyle knows that while coaching the rookies are important, maybe delegate the coaching to the assistants on the day the owner asks you to show up for the grand opening of the new Stadium that enabled the Owner to fund your job. <shrug>

Belichick is a far superior coach to Harbaugh so I don't buy the comparison. He's better because he was smart enough to work with the owner effectively, treating him with the respect an owner has purchased. JH was saddled with Jed York, who is no Kraft, but he could have built him up and had him in his pocket if he had been more socially aware. Baalke isn't exactly a social genius either. But instead, JH alienated Jed, Trent, Paraag...just about the entire management of the team. I have heard he did the same thing at Stanford.

I totally agree that Jed is much at fault as well. His immaturity matched Jim's and they had Baalke as mediator! Horrible group of personalities!

Well, good point there. Hers is another personality comparision. Mike Ditka. Now, I'm thinking... if Jed did choose Harbaugh over Baalke, I would think it would be just a matter of time before Harbaugh would do a Mike Ditka - Hershel Walker deal with Dallas...

Anyway, Kyle looks like he has a more balanced personality and looks also like he can and will talk to ownership and get along with ownership. As Harbaugh always says... "We shall see..."

I wonder that kind of media role he will take. He's well liked around the media, his former media friends will call him and try and get interviews. I have a hard time seeing him turning them down, but at the same time, you don't see that many GMs on talk shows for a reason.

LOL! Very possible! Our next four first round picks for Gregory? JH butted heads with Ditka but respected him after the fact. I will forever remember Ditka for keeping Walter Payton from setting NFL records by taking him out of games. Harbaugh's much more of a players' coach than Ditka but I am curious about his ability to evaluate talent. He'll get his chance, as you say.

We did get a bit lucky. Washington not trading with us for there 17 th was lucky. My opinion is that if we had moved up it would have been for foster

This we would have lost some picks
Got lucky. Had to stay put. But still for our guy

We tried to trade to 21 overall to get Foster as well, iirc.
