That's how I saw it...sure Bears fans and some pundits may paint it as a disaster for the Bears, but if Trubisky is the guy they really wanted, then I don't really see it as "they got fleeced".

It's a deal where Bears ensure they got the QB they wanted when they were certainly worried someone else was going to jump ahead of them, and Niners got a nice haul just to move down one spot. Of course if Trubisky is a bust then it will look bad, but for now does seem "win-win".

Exactly. I'm in Chicago and people here absolutely hate the move up to get Trubisky. They think the Bears got played by Lynch and that nobody was going to trade up to 2 for Trubisky. Maybe thats true, but there's no way of knowing for sure. Thats why the Bears made the move. Trubisky is the player the Bears coveted, so they made 100% sure they would get him. If he pans out then the picks they gave up don't matter.

Despite everyone calling this a weak QB class, it turns out the top guys were highly coveted. Trubisky, Mahomes, and Watson all had their teams make aggressive trade ups to select them. I think it's likely the 49ers really had several teams calling, and the Bears won out. Great deal where we picked up 3 additional picks and still got the guy we coveted, Solomon Thomas. Win-win deal to me for both teams.

For what it's worth Browns released TE Gary Barnidge...might be worth a look

Welcome to my world, remember when Baalke got all the credit and Harbaugh was the evil coach who was trying to take the 49er organization down.

Bro I was right there with you. That's precisely why like a battered wife I will trust no man again, in this case, GM again. I'm waiting for his offense picks to truly see if he's another Baalke or not.

We got the second best pass rusher/run stopper and the best LB in the draft (as far as on field play). It was a GREAT first rd.

I agree we really need skill positions on offense (WR/QB) but taking Trubisky or Corey Davis/Williams/McCaffrey at #3 wouldn't have been wise.

Next years QB class will be better, we could also land Cousins and or go WR first rd if we draft between #8-15.

If we just landed Thomas without landing Foster I would question the pick but with both guys our defense is pretty much set. We can now focus on offense 2018 (esp if we land a CB day two this year). We could move into the second for a guy like Keven King (CB) or get a RB to help take pressure off Hoyer. I'd say CB or RB will be our next pick.

I'm willing to bet $1,000,000 we draft QB or WR early 2018. If we land Cousins or one of the top 2018 QB's our team will be well on our way to long term success.

Pretty solid receiving TE. Only a year removed from 79 catch, 1043 yard, 9 TD season. Played one year under Shanahan in 2014.

For what it's worth, the #49ers did have a real and legitimate offer for someone to come to No. 2 yesterday. #Bears offer was best value.

He had a great 2015 season. He's a bit slow but would make a good redzone target. I'd sign him at the right price and move on from one of the guys Baalke signed. (If we can, probably Celek).

Sure would be an upgrade over Bell and Celek

I think we might target a TE in the draft though, lots of talent left

The 49ers are thinking hard about drafting a TE today. Kyle Shanahan picked Jordan Reed with the Redskins in round 3. SF needs a playmaker

Gerald Everett has been connected to the 49ers throughout this process.
I would probably take the guys you really want the 49ers to draft now and just remove them from your list because they're likely to be gone right away. Each year, fans plays this game "maybe so-and-so will drop" and inevitably those are the guys that go right at the start of round 2. :)

Trying to track down the teams that might have competed with Bears for the second pick and have not found one--Jets never called 49ers

If they conjured this trade out of thin air, I am not sure if I will be in awe or worried...on one hand holy s**t, on the other if word gets out that you lied?

Somebody lied? OMG How could that be?

I remember two years ago a writer asked Steve Kerr about why he changed his lineup from what he had said before the game. "I lied," Kerr said. Everybody laughed.

I don't think Lynch lied about interest. Lots of calls get made just checking things out. Later people may even lie about having made the call. That's just the way it is.

I think we go with a RB if we pick offense day two. Shanahan will want to take pressure off Hoyer and will want to recreate the RB combo he had in Atlanta.

They could get crazy and move into the second for Kizer but I hope not. I think RB or CB will be the next pick. Our TE group could be bolstered via free agency. If at all. Barnidge makes sense.

If we move back into the second I see us going after a pass catching RB. A guy like Alvin Kamara. Or we could get a bruiser like Mixon. Lynch doesn't seem to be afraid of players with some baggage but Mixon may be too much.

If we can land Cook that would be great but it would cost too much to move up that high. I see us taking Kamara or the best available CB.

Reported we're looking for a TE tonight...we'll see a ton of good prospects. I'm on the hunt bandwagon. Like kamara but he's gonna go high imo

Maybe I'm getting more stupid by the day but can Niner fans explain why they think losing a handful of 3rd round picks to move up 1 spot and take the QB they want was such a bad move for Chicago? Are people really forgetting what the Lambs gave up for Jared Goff??? What the Eagles gave up for Wentz??? Both teams gave up multiple picks and actual first rounders. Who gives a crap about 2 3rd round picks if you're Chicago.

The point is they didn't need to. He was gonna be there at #3 for them anyway.

They had no way of knowing that.

I'd keep an eye on these names . We're 2/2 for drafting guys we had a pre-draftvisit with. These are the guys that we visited with that could be there at 66/67:

51 Ahkello Witherspoon CB
66 Dion Dawkins G
69 Dan Feeney G
70 Julie'n Davenport OT
72 Tim Williams Edge
77 Kareem Hunt RB
78 Carlos Henderson WR
87 Teez Tabor CB
88 Nathan Peterman QB
