That's how I saw it...sure Bears fans and some pundits may paint it as a disaster for the Bears, but if Trubisky is the guy they really wanted, then I don't really see it as "they got fleeced".
It's a deal where Bears ensure they got the QB they wanted when they were certainly worried someone else was going to jump ahead of them, and Niners got a nice haul just to move down one spot. Of course if Trubisky is a bust then it will look bad, but for now does seem "win-win".
Exactly. I'm in Chicago and people here absolutely hate the move up to get Trubisky. They think the Bears got played by Lynch and that nobody was going to trade up to 2 for Trubisky. Maybe thats true, but there's no way of knowing for sure. Thats why the Bears made the move. Trubisky is the player the Bears coveted, so they made 100% sure they would get him. If he pans out then the picks they gave up don't matter.
Despite everyone calling this a weak QB class, it turns out the top guys were highly coveted. Trubisky, Mahomes, and Watson all had their teams make aggressive trade ups to select them. I think it's likely the 49ers really had several teams calling, and the Bears won out. Great deal where we picked up 3 additional picks and still got the guy we coveted, Solomon Thomas. Win-win deal to me for both teams.
