Theoretically an extra year without having to pay them.

i think he meant that is a disadvantage and that is why we traded down

Yes some teams have changed who they draft in the bottom of round 1 based on the 5th year player option

Positions like OG and OC are the most impacted bc they get a price thst includes OT contracts

I can see DeFo taking a reasonable 2-3 year deal to close out his career here, especially if the 49ers have some playoff success to end this season. The familiarity with the franchise will get him to stay. Just hope there aren't any hard feelings from him getting traded to IND.

I think he's well past the point of hard feelings and would assume it couldn't have taken long for him to realize it was a difficult business decision for the 49ers. Judging by his IG post, he seems to be pretty fired up to be back in the Bay.

DT is a position that ages very well, and going by how much young talent the 49ers have accumulated in the last 3 drafts on top of having a HOF caliber talent at QB in the prime of his career, he knows he has a chance to be part of a dynasty here in SF.
Wow didn't think they would just flat out cut Jones. I figured bench backup. Maybe they will resign him to the ps.

or

Lynch is going to trade for another slot corner or CB to fill for when Lenoir has to slide over.

Not that Prysock can't take the job, but he's still a rook

Halton, Dugger, Height all rooks. Let's see what Prysock can do.

Nate Hobbs could be activated soon
Jimmy G
Trey Lance
Aiyuk

A waste of valuable time, money and draft picks.

Maybe. In 10 years, they've never paid a guard big money, either our own or an outside FA, nor have they ever attempted a trade for a top guard. The evidence suggests that they don't prioritize the position and won't invest significant money in a guard. Maybe with Puni that changes, but it shouldn't surprise anyone if they let him walk.

But how many teams have ever made a trade for a top G? Sure, Seattle this year, but I can't think of many, if any.

If Puni is gonna ask for $30m+ a year, I think they let him walk. Maybe he goes the McKivitz route and decides to stay for a more reasonable amount. But I do think he is far and away the best G the 49ers have had during KS/Lynch's tenure with the team. Really, Puni should have been a Pro Bowler as a rookie, his 2nd year was screwed due to injury, and he should be a lock for Pro Bowl and possibly All Pro this year.... and I seem as a perennial Pro Bowl G in the NFL. My opinion, it would be wise to give Brock some continuity on the OL and allow this group to continue to build chemistry and keep him upright.

Brandon Aiyuk was an All Pro and had multiple 1k receiving seasons.
Jimmy G wasn't drafted by the 49ers, and he was a solid QB that peaked as a Top 10 guy and helped lead them to some deep playoff runs.

Sounds like you just wanna cherry pick things to b***h about.

Try this exercise: Pay attention to ANY team in the NFL besides the 49ers. Super Bowl winner, mid team, bottom feeder- your pick. After you do, you'll notice that literally every single team whiffs on at least 50% of their draft picks, and most of them don't draft or acquire even close to the amount of Pro Bowlers and HOFer's that the 49ers do.

Hope life gets better for you, bro.
Wilson stating that he doesn't want to be traded, so that likely ends that discussion.... Downs would be the WR if we were to go after someone then.

If no WR is traded for I hope we try to get a edge.

Wouldn't have even been that ANYWHERE except in Kyle's system.

Must be why 2 other teams were willing to part with significant draft capital and pay him $28m+/year.

I think Brandon Aiyuk is an idiot, but he was as good of a route runner as there was in the NFL before he blew his knee out, was the #1 WR on an extremely talented offense and was almost always open.

Honestly, these "but Kyle's system" arguments hold 0 merit, because there have been COUNTLESS WR's, RB's TE's and QB's in the 9 years Kyle has been the HC of the 49ers that haven't come close to that production.

The "system" (btw, EVERY single team/coach has a "system") has been used as a weak excuse to denigrate and discredit players people don't like.

Brandon Aiyuk was working out CB's in press man- the "system" doesn't beat man coverage.

"The system" doesn't catch passes"

"The system" doesn't run precise routes.

Cool. Where is BA now? How did Deebo fare when he left? Jennings? BA was never Antonio Brown, yet Brown STILL garnered interest.
