yeah it's pretty cherry picked, firstly we took lance and that absorbed a lot of our ones, second we have brock who was drafted and is now QB1, who cares what round he went, strib is gonna be playing a meaningful role, pretty sure we packaged some of that draft capital for cmc who will be out there, etc.

As has been said, takes one draft to change things.

I was going to say this. What worries me is that they never seem to learn from their mistakes when it comes to reaching. They continue doing it year after year. Ironically, they seem to have hit on Stribling and Black this year, which will likely end up reinforcing the exact draft philosophy that has produced a ton of whiffs. I love that it looks like they hit, but I hate that it will likely inadvertently validate a bad process.

I still can't get over them drafting Enrique Cruz in the fifth round. Someone should be fired for that alone. I'm being hyperbolic, but holy f**k, that guy is horrible.

Need Jed to give the authority to a personnel guy going forward. Stop with the coaches having so much input from two months of watching prospects.

That's the damn problem; they really don't go bpa. I wasn't a fan of the Stribling pick, but he looks promising. It's still frustrating the reason they drafted him is because their other WR didn't work out. We can all nitpick every angle, but end of the day they simply need to draft better, especially with the higher rounds.

Lol one day away from opening day and the whiners are out!!! Lynch can't build a team but yet we are playoff contenders dang near every year. His 1st half of drafts are very questionable but Kyle deserves just as much of the blame. Their draft day logic allows them to talk themselves into drafting players a round early. No argument from me here. But to sit here and say they can't build a team is asinine.

I don't think all aspects of team building suck. They do a good job through trades and decently well in free agency, but holy f**k, they are awful at drafting. Unfortunately, the draft is the lifeblood of NFL rosters, and without good drafts, you're f**ked because you can't just buy every player. Also, your depth goes to s**t.

They are awful at drafting in rounds 1-3. They are excellent at drafting in rounds 4-7. Its crazy if you think about it because the picks that they are good at have a very very low chance of making it.

The draft is truly a crapshoot. Go back and look at 3rd round picks and just see how many of those guys make it. Its crazy because we think a 3rd round pick should make it but they a large % don't.

They haven't been excellent in rounds 4-7 since 2021 when they drafted Mitchell, Hufanga and D-Mo. It's been bad in those rounds in the last 4 drafts. They have a massive hit in Brock Purdy(Thank you Slowik+Griese) and then a whole bunch of mediocre to really bad picks from 2022 to 2025(26 tbd).

The 5th round magic is gone. It's been gone.

Yeah there's a dozen guys I was like WTF are we doing here.

Hoping a couple hits for once. I feel like Williams can be a pretty good player if he comes back 100%. At this pt f**k those picks, trade for proven players and keep it rolling

I was "okay" with the stribling pick after the trade downs.

BA didn't work out because he's a nut job, not because he can't ball. Ricky just can't stay healthy, he's pretty damn good when he plays. Overall I think they can evaluate the WR position pretty well.

overall I just think the coaches have too much of a say on who the picks will be….I mean maybe it's like that elsewhere, but we basically gave Saleh carte blanche on the 2025 draft and he was here for a year.

Yeah it's not standard anymore….hasn't really been. Got a feeling we will get something out of Willis/Halton/Prysock/Dugger this yr…I liked James in 25, plus west and Sigle are gonna play. I think we will get a couple decent starters out of that bunch at some point.
I'd be really curious how most teams draft process works, between the scouts/coaches/front office etc. With us, it seems to me like the coaches have a huge say in who gets drafted.

For example, Our LB coach with Dugger. I wonder if the process was that a scout loved dugger and some other guys, then showed the position coach, then they lobbied for them with the front office. or is it just the coaches look over players and find the ones they "love" and they push that, then the front office takes that into account and the scout report?

Idk, but i've said it for years - it's odd we typically draft really well in the late rounds but poorly in the first 3 rounds (Super hit or miss with players). that is statistically wild over a 10 year period. I'd love to know what they do different with their process from the first few rounds to the second part. If they do anything different at all, idk.

I get that most draft picks across the league will suck or not make it, every team misses on most of their picks, but I find the niners turnouts to be so odd.

This isn't true anymore and hasn't been true for awhile. See the posts above. They flat out suck in every round.

Yeah it would be interesting to see how it all goes down on another team…this is just a total guess but we seem to throw BPA in the trash the first 3 rds. Heavily geared towards need and positional value. Like they would draft the 9th ranked DE over the 3rd ranked IOL. I think as you go into day 3 of the draft we're not seeing as much reaching and it's more BPA…shocking the results equal more hits, even if most of those hits aren't at premium positions most times.

Ah 49ers webzone, b***h b***h b***h. People saying they should not listen to the coaches.
I remember it was the opposite when Trent Baalke was GM and he would only listen to Harbaugh regarding QB-

For those that don't know, Lynch actually brought Patrick Mahomes to the attention of Kyle and asked what do you think, they both initially agreed to go D line, but Kyle told him we should stick to the plan.

I think like everyone here who has an opinion and an AH, that personnel people and coaches come and go like Peters, D. Ryans, Saleh and others when our coaches get promoted and leave with some of our personnel people. This affects the process. The cohesion of who to pick and develop.

BPA-by whose standard? The pundits like Mel Kiper and Grant Cohn? How many of these writers were scouts, coaches and players and actually watched ALL the college film? Do you account for system fit. Heck some of our picks were based on BPA - remember Solomon. After the Stribling pick we find out that there a lot of other teams thought like the niners did, at least six in total according to Bucky Brookes and Cosell. Then another writer mentioned that the Rams were looking at him at the end of the 2nd round.

While Slowik and Griese brought Purdy to the attention of Kyle, they were not here recently, when they picked Kurtis who I think will do better than the Raiders QB pick . It is, learning the process and correcting your mistakes. Like Lance - never draft a QB that only has one year of starting experience, even with all that raw talent.

There are certain schools you draft certain positions providing the coaches remain the same. Like before Penn State was known as LB U.
Now the kids jump around so much and that affects judging the talent.

The one thing you can't judge is what is in the kids head, Aiyuk talent but crazy r****d. Ryan Leaf-another r****d and a very high pick. Another thing you can't determine is luck in as far as injuries. Another thing, niners pick in the later rounds is more RAS based. Another is coaching up- maybe they are not doing there jobs. Wright is a talent, that is why Kyle told Saleh, you can't poach him even though he is an assistant LB coach, Might be the next D. Ryans.
