If we are looking like a top 5 team (which I believe we are, at least on paper) midway thru the season, I want Niners to go all in on Maxx Crosby if he is looking like himself & fully healed. Kittle, Trent, CMC, Juice, etc deserve a ring with this team. Don't let them be the Harbaugh Niners & never get it done.
I can't see Paraag loosening the purse to acquire Maxx Crosby. Las Vegas is going to want a premium in compensation. His compensation this year is pretty much all game checks as they didn't restructure his salary into a signing bonus. His guarantees are 30M in salary this year and 29M in salary next year. Then his salary is non-guaranteed and drops to 26.5M and 27.43M. He's going to want a new contract at around the same time Bosa is going to want a new contract.
An in-season trade of Crosby actually kind of makes sense financially.
Pay him $15M for the season and then try to flip him in the offseason.
I'd rather spend less than half of that and have Clowney all season. You don't have to do the draft pick dance of sending multiple early picks (and probably Mykel Williams) just to flip him in the offseason for some of that value back.
That's dumb, the FO has always been the better half of the trade table.
clowney over Crosby? Ridiculous
Disagree. The Lance trade is in the convo of worst trades in NFL history. Then there was Jog Young. We spent a 3rd round pick on a half-season rental because we thought Young was the missing piece for that championship run. "Young has history with Bosa! Ignore him being terrible on Washington! Bosa will motivate him! Young will excel! We'll get back that 3rd round compensatory pick!" Well, he didn't excel. He wasn't even good with us. He signed a 1-year 13M deal with the Saints which returned a 4th round compensatory pick. Then there was Brian Robinson Jr.. He was barely used. Cost a 6th for a 1-year rental and didn't even fetch back a future compensatory pick. They gave up a 2nd round pick for Dee Ford, gave him a huge multi-year contract, then witnessed his falloff before a back injury effectively ended his career.
Maxx Crosby is not the same as he was 2021-23. Clowney has been consistently better the last two years and is a fraction of the cost. I would have also taken Grennard and Hendrickson over Crosby too.
Lance wasn't a bad trade, but in hindsight a bad pick
chase wasn't a bad trade for a potential beast who went high overall in his draft class, he just couldn't recover to his former self after injury
a 6th for BRj a bad trade, not even close
dee ford was a bad trade in hindsight, we were desperate for any kind of pass rush
there are just way too many trades we came out on top without out giving up crazy assets for
As for player comparisons, look up stathead and see Crosby has done a lot more than clowney the last two years
