Les Snead is showing up John Lynch as a GM. I mean, we have all kinds of cap excuses as to why we can't make big signings, yet the Rams continue to make big signings year after year. People keep saying that they will have to "pay the piper". Well Les Snead must be bribing the piper to not collect his depth.
Yup, and their big price was one 5-12 season. Oh, the horror! It's not like we've avoided terrible seasons by playing money ball.
That's what having Matt Stafford grants you. We havent' seen Sean McVay have any success without a #1 overall pick playing QB for him. Obviously great if you have that. We'll see how long Matt can play at a high level and whether Simpson can play anywhere close to that.
What does it matter? Les Snead will just pull off another trade to get a top QB like Patrick Mahomes, Joe Burrow, or Josh Allen until Simpson is ready.
Part of our issue is we and the rest of the league use the salary cap as a legitimate reason/excuse to taper current and future short term spending. Long ago we were in 'cap hell ' But the revenue game has evolved. Snead is fearless about future cap and maybe because his owner is one of the NFL shot callers.
To put things in perspective
2026 cap $301M
2021 cap $182M
2016 cap $$155M
Snead doesn't fear free agency or long term spending on studs. He undervalues draft picks and would rather spend on known commodities, proven players. Which aligns with "f them draft picks" saying.
He didn't just sign Garrett, but also traded a 2026 1st for Trent McDuffie and gave him an immediate $124M extension.
At least we have the most cap space. #1 in responsible spending.
