However on the surface I do think Lynch is less dynamic as a GM than I would like. You don't have to sign everyone or make big splashes but at least make some draft day trades to get more capital and absolutely trade Mac for whatever we can get. We are at the accumulation stage of our rebuild. We need to get young and fast through the draft.

only issue with that is we can't draft

You can't make up for bad drafting with trades and free agent signings. Fortunately our drafting isn't as bad as you're making it out to be.

Actually, I think that's exactly what Lynch is good at, trades and free agency. Trading for Emmanuel Sanders, Laken Tomlinson, Trent Williams, Chase Young, Randy Gregory and CMC. Along with free agent signings of Richard Sherman, Javon Hargrave, Tashaun Gipson have all help this team push them into the Super Bowl over majority of his 1st round picks.

You're not wrong but those trades were made when we were in a state comparable to the rams are right now. It's clear that our current rebuild is a multi year plan to get younger and shed some contracts that are bogging us down. We aren't in a position to give up assets for high salary players like Crosby right now.

Exactly. I think unfortunately it's a really good for the Rams. Their top need was easy to spot - CB. They grabbed a proven one in the NFL who is still young.

Thing is, they have to pay him now and they better hope a change in scheme doesn't mess with his play. You also had some people saying he regressed last year so time will tell how well this works out for the Rams.

Regardless nobody here should be b***hing that the 49ers didn't make this move.

Is anyone b***hing about us not making this move?

I see people complaining about how limited our trade activity is under Lynch, which I think is a somewhat valid point. I don't see anyone saying we should have made this exact move. Too expensive for us, but LA filled a position of major need and still kept their more valuable draft pick.

The issue is division rivals continue to make strategic, impactful moves to get better while we seem to be standing still or falling behind.

Gotta get younger on the O-line, not to mention draft better at there too. For what this team did last season, it shouldn't take much to get back in the hunt for first place in the NFC West. Then again, asking this team to stay healthy is a big ask.

Agreed. I think the fanbase is extremely neurotic right now in the aftermath of the Seattle SB, but we aren't that far off. You don't have the record we had last year and win a playoff game if your last 2 drafts were complete trash. We just still have more work to do and it needs to happen mostly in this and next draft.

What exactly does this move have to do with Lynch? Rams had a CLEAR weakness on their roster and trying to milk everything they can out of their roster before Matt Stafford hangs it up. It was a smart move for them.

It was not a smart move for the 49ers.

Lynch not doing s**t or continually making the wrong move, seems like rams and Seahawks are always one step ahead of us, he lost his backbone, we need to be getting better and he ain't doing s**t, the mcduffie move was great, niners need to do 2-3 trades like this

Damnit...had a whole long post written out and accidentally closed the page.

Will try to keep it short - the bold is a wildly over reactionary take. 49ers have made a number of trades when the opportunity was there, including some huge ones including getting 6+ years of all pro level play from Trent Williams for a 5th round pick that year and a 3rd rounder the following draft. Getting CMC and even Jimmy Garoppolo who helped get the 49ers back to winning games.

The move the Rams made isn't one the 49ers should make so who cares? The Rams weren't making those moves when they were in the position the 49ers find themselves in.

As fans you can either overreact or look at the situation realistically. We're 3rd in the division and have an uphill battle to win it again. Throwing away draft picks has to make sense. If it doesn't then stop crying about it.

(believe it or not that's the short version)

IMO, trade for Thibodeaux or Greenard will be a whole lot better for the 9ers than trading for Crosby. Shoot, I'd rather they sign Trey Hendrickson than trade for Crosby.

We gotta do something dude, we falling really behind now , we got holes to fill in all places, lynch need to do several moves , I'd be happy with any of those as well that you stated, we gotta start filling our needs tho, Les Snead traded for devante Adam's last year and mcduffie this year lol, and we haven't done s**t and wonder why we behind them

So dramatic...at least try keeping your facts in check.

Rams didn't trade for Adams. They signed him in FA. Rams will go as far as Stafford takes them. We haven't seen anything from McVay to show us that he can keep the team winning without Stafford. Can they get another full year from him? We'll find out. He's going to be 38.5 this season and he's got a lot of wear and tear on that body.

Either way I'm concerned about the 49ers and what they do. Not what the Rams or Seahawks do. Whether McDuffie is a huge get for them remains to be seen. How much he helps them remains to be seen.

Yes. On the radio, on twitter and certainly being insinuated on here like Lynch not making the deal somehow is a big mistake otherwise why bring it up here? There's a Rams thread available.

And Lynch has a limited trade activity? We literally made 4 trades last year and people in here were still crying we didn't make a trade. BTW virtually every player people cried about us not trading for are now available in FA or were had via other trades and how our season ended, none of them would've made a lick of difference.

So maybe just chill out and see what actually happens in FA/draft before panicking?
Weren't all the people worshipping the Rams in this thread insisting they would use #29 to get Maxx Crosby?

Y'all are so tiring. Just go join the Rams forum already.

In what way am I panicking? Seems an unnecessary reach in response to my post.

I suspect people are bringing it up here because they see other organizations outpacing us, and this trade is arguably an example of it. Doesn't mean they're insinuating Lynch should have made this trade.

You said in your other post you're not concerned with what Seattle and LA do. I find that position asinine. We are in competition with 31 other teams and absolutely need to be paying attention to what other organizations are doing.
In all this talk about trades and free agents, the one thing that isn't mentioned is the salary cap and how that impacts player movement. Our GM and HC evaluate our personnel and determine where improvement is needed. Other teams do the same thing, but if a team needs a position filled and gets a player that fills that need, it doesn't change what our team needs in the slightest. Before the cap was instituted Eddie D bought the best players available, sometimes just to deny another team the opportunity to get the guy. The cap was the leagues solution to Eddie's tactic. Now the team must contend with not only the players skill set and how it fits their plans but also how the salary cap fits the plan. Just because we identify a player as a good fit physically, doesn't mean he's a good fit financially. The salary impact must be considered in every personnel move.

Our GM isn't on the level with Seattle and the Rams. Seattle just drafted 2 players better than mykel williams in last years draft well after we took Williams.

Those GMs are not on the same level as Lynch. Those guys passed on George Kittle 5 times. Passed on Fred Warner multiple times. Passed on Brock Purdy 7 times.

Am i doing that right?
