Crazy that he only had a 5yr career, but I see why players would want to retire early with concussions being a real issue.

I don't blame any football player for retiring early. After 5 years they can have a decent amount of money saved with the salaries they receive now. Even a center if he doesn't blow the money. Why stick around and risk serious injury. Plus there may be family issues . An illness or maybe he has young kids he wants to spend time with.

I remember his dad Chris retiring from a neck injury back in the day. Dad/family probably helped him made the decision that it's ok to walk away from the game. Both got their degrees at Stanford, and you're right made some money on the NFL and just decided to move on to other things in life.

We may see more players doing this in the future. Between the NIL money they get incollege and the contracts in the NFL it makes sense. Especially if you're on a team that isn't a perennial contender. Bank the money and live a bettrer life than most people will ever have. I've seen too many players that had long careers that can barely get around now. All those injuries add uo when you're older.
Are we players in free agency? If so, is the pass rush the group to add before the draft? I was looking at our group with Bosa, Williams are the locks and White, Huff signed. Who do you guys like if we can get one? Hendrickson, Oweh, Bosa etc. or trade for one of Greenard and Thibodeaux?

Makes sense. But so many just don't know what to do with themselves after playing for so long especially when the money is good.
AI said he has made over $25 million in his 5 year career. That is by far enough money to take care of himself, his wife and kids for life. Heck, I retired at 60 with far less and should be comfortable for life and I wanted to enjoy 60-70. He can now go and pursue whatever interests him and feel financially secured IF he was smart with his money which I assume he has been. He also has his health and that is critical in my opinion.

Exactly, he's obviously earned a good amount of money, and who knows what his degree might be, if he doesn't have one he might go back for one, as many players do that, so he could have another career ahead of him.

I like Oweh, and Greenard. Hopefully they could get either guy. Bosa is washed up to me. Hendrickson is too old to pay. Then I'd take another pass rusher in the draft to replace Huff. We need to get younger and more aggressive up front.

Agree with this, I wouldn't mind sending Mac and a pick for Greenard, he's a good EDGE, I've watched nearly every Vikings game since I got the NFL Sunday Ticket as my late Father was a Vikings fan, and he's a good EDGE, he did miss a few games in 2025 due to injuries, but still worth it for Mac and a pick IMO, not sure how good Oweh is, haven't seen much of him, I know some on here liked him coming out of college, and I agree on Joey & Hendrickson, and getting younger, but we still NEED some older vets, so a Greenard and Oweh, or Crosby would help, not sure how likely we get Crosby though, so Greenard would be nice.

I don't mind about age in FA so much.... If it's a good deal, but usually FA are overpaid so they are wise to avoid it. Regardless of what they do in FA they still need to draft well. Also, even if they did sign Hendrickson or Bosa, that would not stop me from draft edge rd1. You can never have enough pass rushers and having a deep rotation only benefits everyone.

This is true even without injuries. So many edge guys are either good pass rushers or good run stoppers but often not both. That means a lot of rotation with some just coming in for obvious passing situations.

I hate to turn to the dark side of things but Lynch really isn't looking too good right now.

Traded the farm for Trey Lance.

He's missed on two D-lineman in the 1st round. I'm praying Mykel Williams isn't a third but a torn ACL isn't a good start.

Stout ranked as one of the worst slot corners.

49ers' 2025 draft class got one of the worst grades by NFL analysts (ranked 24).

Johnny Lynch keeps working his magic.
