Front page article talks about Huff as a cut candidate and he's due to make $17mil…everything thing I've seen is his cap hit is 5.9 and if he's traded or cut they save that with no dead cap. For a team hurting for pass rush I'd rather just hold onto him. The vision of his role never even came to fruition last season once Bosa went down

It's $5.4M in 2026 and then a $11.7M void salary in 2027. None of it is guaranteed that's where the $17M is coming from.
There is zero chance he plays for us this year on this contract. None. It will either be re-worked or he's gone.

If they can void it in 27 and his hit is only 5.4 in 26, why would they need to do anything?

Can they really get out of the $11.7M salary just by cutting him after 2026? If so what even is the point of it being there? Genuinely asking. Void years are usually just for spreading cap hits after a player is off the roster but don't know if this is a unique situation because of the trade.

Because they don't want to spend 17 million in cash. The cap hit this year is 5.4, but the remaining money (11.6m) hits the cap next year.

This is what look at. If all he's just is 5.4 against the cs this year, just assume keep him. Then cut him next year

But based off of spotrac they can catch cut him with no financial implications in 27…no dead cap, hit and 2.9 in savings

Right, my post describes what happens if they keep him.

So where is the 11.6 coming from if it says he can be cut with no hit in 27? Way I'm reading it is they are on the hook for 5.4 this year and that's it if they decide to move on.

John Lynch and Kyle Shanahan's first round draft picks since taking over the 49ers in 2017:
— Coach Yac 🗣 (@Coach_Yac) February 16, 2026
2025: Mykel Williams
2024: Ricky Pearsall
2021: Trey Lance
2020: Javon Kinlaw
2020: Brandon Aiyuk
2019: Nick Bosa
2018: Mike McGlinchey
2017: Solomon Thomas
2017: Reuben Foster pic.twitter.com/2bmnXkz0i2
The few left: 1 doesn't want to be here and going AWOL, 2 are coming off acl tears, and the last was shot last year....

Sure he's missed on most of his 1st round picks, but he still managed to put together two Super Bowl rosters with trades and free agency. But yah he's not very good in the 1st round.

The 49ers would be exercising Huff's option bonus. It's reflected on spotrac under the option proration column ($2,927,000 every year from 2026-2030). To keep it as simple as possible, if they keep him:
17.1m in cash paid in '26.
5.4m cap hit in '26.
11.7m cap hit in '27.
Not happening, lol.
