The plan was obvious on defense and it worked. We kept our stars and tried to have them carry young guys through, they just both got injured, I forsee them being so much better for the experience of doing it without Warner and Bosa.
I do think he's got a bit of a blind spot at Safety, I think he thinks that he can identify talent further down the draft because he played the position (worked with Hufanga) and I think he overvalues tackling as that's what his meal ticket was. While everyone needs to be able to tackle I'd like to see us with a ball hawk back there.
Good, sensible post.
I agree with your take on Lynch's bias for a Safety that can play down in the box and tackle versus a ball-hawking true Free Safety. I would like to see us grab one of those in the draft. That having been said, I do think Safety has perhaps the least influence on the overall defense.
Thanks DJ, yeah it does, but I think nearly all the rest of the improvement needed on D can come from health of Bosa and Warner and the young guys developing, that's the only area I can't see getting better.
I just want a QB to have a second thought about throwing deep against us.

Depends who wins/loses today. Somewhere between 26-28.

Exactly. The number of times the 49ers passed over an obvious BPA for their guy is f**king stupid.
people focus way too much on positional need, but the focus should be on getting impact players regardless of what position they play. I'd take an impact player at any f**king spot on the field right now.
Yeah the "we're smarter than everyone else" draft picks have been brutal misses.
"getting too cute" picks

None of these guys have amounted to jack crap thus far, and that doesn't even include the picks they've traded for other RB's like McCaffrey and Robinson.
I agree with this. The madness of wasting draft picks on Rb's is ridiculous.

Amazing what free agency can do to a team, Seahawks picked up earnest jones, Demarcus Lawerence and traded for shaheed and rams got Devante Adam's, meanwhile lynch didn't do s**t , results are predictable

Remember the Niners gave Adams an insult offer before he signed with the Rams

I agree one pick in the first round and it being that low is not going to be much.

He and his scouting department has their share of blame but all our drafts have the coach's fingerprints all over them.
Lynch might have more pull on the defensive side of the board but there is 0 chance that Kyle isn't in charge of how we draft on offense.
Kyle was the one that picked Lynch and the primary reason for that is he wanted a guy to do all the grunt work that a GM does so after the season he can look at all the information that the scouting department put together and decide on what they are doing for the draft.

So rams and seahawks are playing each other to get a trip to the Super Bowl at Levi's.
If one of them wins it in our home field it will be a failure of epic proportions for this entire franchise top to bottom.
but we sit here. Proud of our team. Because they made the playoffs.
we have officially become the Detroit lions.

Shany has final say on the picks. He runs the player personnel.

We've seen enough sample size with Jed, Shanny and Lynch...we fall somewhere in between the 80'-90's Championship Teams and the Dark Ages. Always somewhat relevant but not good enough to get to the top of the mountain.
Our downfall - injuries never seriously addressed year after year and our reluctance to not focus on OLine in the draft.

Did you just really jump out of Shanny's bandwagon?
Been saying this for over 6 years now, all the 3rd rounders we wasted on those RBs, and even that TE from Alabama, I personally would have given Shanny a little pass had he used all those picks on an OL and/or LBs.
Jordan James, will have to see next year if he a bust.... it just makes me wonder why he only suiting up now? and where has Ickey G been all year long?
Thanks
