Didn't think they could get someone to take on that contract but didn't account for their former personnel guy actually being in love with the guy.

I love Brock Purdy but Joe Burrow is clearly a much better QB.

I should learn my lesson after the Stafford trade going through to the Rams...so I won't say it's not going to happen. BUT

I do think the Bengals won't make that move and if they do it will cost a LOT. I'm talking both their first rounders in 2026 and probably at least 2 more first rounders if not more.

Burrow is in the prime of his career. A lot more proven in the playoffs and overall than Stafford was when he was traded. I just have a hard time seeing a team who asked for a first round pick for broken down 31 year old Trey Hendrickson who would be a half year rental giving up a borderline elite level QB in his prime for anything less than 4+ first round picks.

Trade for a somewhat injury prone QB (Burrow) who is without question one of what would be considered a superstar elite QB in the league with:

Another somewhat injury prone QB (Purdy) and a backup QB who only made a resurgence this season with us because our QB had a similar injury to that somewhat injury prone QB that Zone smokers want to trade for.

First rounder being used on a left tackle to replace Trent; said with such certainty, common sense even, let's see how this one ages come draft time. This regime has proven time and time again against anything but certainty that OL is a priority for them in the first round; OL coach literally said they "prioritize" other positions.

Without it; we can almost guarantee Burrow gets injured early next season. Well; Purdy got injured early this season with Trent, who is better than any (insert any upcoming draft first round OT).

As to Aiyuk; I don't really care, but it doesn't work like that. He can't (walk at the end of the season) and join any team he chooses, not up to him, he's under contract. He "walks" if the 49ers cut his ass. So if they can trade him and get something vice nothing; common sense tells me that's the better route.

This is how'd you do it

Trade Mac Jones + our next 3 first rounders to Bengals. Mac can be a bridge Qb for them until they find their guy. We then trade Purdy to whoever he wants to go to. We wouldnt get much at that point but it would offload his contract.

It's a steep price but it has worked for the Rams plus we already survived giving up the same amount for Trey Lance.

It's all fantasy though. No way the Bengals trade him away.

Purdy has a NO TRADE CLAUSE. That's pretty much where this hypothetical dream ends. He's not going to say yes to getting traded to the Bengals. No, Jamar Chase all by himself is not enough of a selling point for him.

So what, he's gonna stay on a team that is actively trying to trade him?

Off the top of my head I haven't seen a team/player say no to a trade that then went on to have some happy/successful career together. They usually find a place for them to get traded to that he is cool with or he gets cut.

This. There's a world where you can say Brock is good and happy he's your guy AND understand that Burrow is just on another level. It's exactly like the Jimmy G is as good as Stafford s**t takes in here.

In hindsight, Lance was a costly and terrible pick for sure, but at some point we all just have to move on and look forward instead of always looking backward. JB is a fantastic QB for sure if we could swing a fair deal, but having blown the Lance attempt years ago has no bearing on future moves. They took a swing, it didn't work out, doesn't mean they shouldn't keep looking for ways to improve.

I don't know that they'd do it while they still have a healthy Stafford, especially if they win the SB this year. Lynch traded 3 first rounders for a bust QB, so I wouldn't have any problem trading the same, plus Purdy for a proven winning QB.
