This team isn't a contender even with another DE, wasting a pick on a rental made no sense

But we can waste a third on Nick Martin who does absolutely nothing , not surprised at this point with the track record this regime has had drafting

Gotta love it, right? Held on to a pick for a pass rusher but then have a 3rd round pick lb that can't get on the field and behind gifford lol

What's hilarious is that Lynch tried to imitate the Rams' strategy by getting younger on defense. The results have been horrendous thus far. The entire draft class combined hasn't had the impact that Jared Verse had in his rookie season. Williams and Collins have been average at best. Stout, Sigle, and (the 2025 Kory Sheets award winner) CJ West have done nothing.

And that's not even mentioning the fact that last year's draft class is starting to also look like a miss, with Puni regressing, Green getting beat like a drum, Cowing always being hurt, and Guerendo never seeing the field. Pearsall is good when healthy, and Mustapha is average—a heavy-hitter who takes bad angles and can't cover.

Lynch has survived this long because of a handful of selections early in his tenure—namely Warner, Kittle, and Bosa—which covered up his frequent blunders. Those guys, however, are nearing the end of their primes. And the cupboard looks bare.

I'm guessing Lynch is the ultimate scapegoat over the next few seasons. Kyle will eventually follow.

Great post. I would add that the Rams strategy imitation goes back to the QB trades where the Rams sent picks for Stafford, and the geniuses at 49ers HQ traded 3 first round picks to take Trey Lance

Losing the Stafford trade to the Rams was brutal. Imagine KS with Stafford. As you said they went all in for a Lance but not Stafford.

was not gonna happen.... KYLE rejected the TB12 idea, then the Stafford trade becaue he did not want any of those QB to get the credit once we win the Super Bowl.. Kyle wanted ALL the credits by staying with Grappy not once.. but twice !!

Staying with Grappy was the EXCUSE he was going to use for not winning !!
His draft picks are the biggest problem!

3rd round pick for a LB who can't get on the field.

Brown stinks, Williams didn't look like a pass rusher, Green is average. Winters is mediocre at best.

and they pay a guy like Lenoir who is another guy who took the money and is too busy about social media clout!

I agree with this take on their drafting. Trades and free agency aren't the solution when your drafting is this bad

Bunch of delusional angry, burn it all down fans here.

Lynch played it smart by recognizing that the chances of winning the SB this year without Warner and Bosa (plus the other real dozen injured defensive guys) was very low. This wasn't the year to push all in. He made a few modest trades but the real work will be in the offseason. It sucks, but that's the smart objective way to look at it. No team is winning the SB when their top 2 superstar defensive players are out.

Played it smart? Why so he can draft more busts? He needs to step down.

True , smartest move he has made in a while. It however does not excuse his drafting. He should return to tv and we should get a real GM. Time for ownership to make the call. If not, we will continue down the road we are on.

This. It's not about him failing to make a trade. It's about his inability to draft difference-makers.

Sunk cost fallacy. He smartly didn't give in to it.

He expected the young guys to have time to grow into their roles while guys like Warner and Bosa picked up the slack. That plan got blown up by the injuries.

There's nothing wrong from an executive standpoint to recognize that you no longer have the horses and it's smarter to regroup for next year.

The real move would have been to be a seller this year and get ahead of next year,

Absolutely he would have.
In case anyone forgot, Lynch traded Buckner and handed the Bucs Tristan Wirfs so that we could draft this fool:
