Can it be any worse than all the injuries that occurred?

Dude had a spinal fusionhow in the hell is he playing football?
Still SMH that people think this is an issue. Doctors cleared him for a reason. Only downside to fusion is possible loss of mobility, depending on where it happened. Had he not done it, we'd see him missing games regularly to spasms due to herniation. Fusion strengthens the vertebrae to prevent that. SIGN HEEEM NOW PLEASE!
Fusion 'fuses' two levels together. If you think that strengthens it, I'm not sure. I read he did C5 and C6 which is higher on the spine below the throat area. The person loses the ability to flex between those 2 vertebrae. I heard he kept getting stingers from tackling and it caused the herniation which probably led to the neuropathy on his hands.
We've had linemen that have had fusion done, I think Joe Montana had fusion done as well. After reading about it I don't think he's at any more risk of paralysis than any other player making tackles.

Sorry dude. I've had some personal experience with bad back discs and surgery. But I'm no foot ball player getting crushed by 200-300lb masses of muscle.
Put it in your terms Kolohe : if you had an opportunity to buy a low mileage car that was almost totaled but was rebuilt, the frame just needed to be straightened out, the airbags never deployed, would you pay cash for a cheap deal if it was salvaged but now looks and drives great?

Hell yes I I'd buy!!! As long as there's no electrical problems. lol
Not sure why I'm getting my hopes up, 9ers always low ball street free agents. I wonder what his asking price is? I would think the bid starts at $5 million. I think the 9ers do have two things going for them, one, Renardo Green is from the FSU and may have ran into each other. Two, he doesn't have to leave Cali, not sure how much that means to him problem little to none.

So you've "heard" have you? I've had a spinal fusion surgery, so kinda have first hand experience. I had it 10 years ago and haven't had any back issues since. Again, doctors wouldn't clear him to play if there was any risk. But if the internet tells you something, guess it must be true.

He used words like "I'm not sure" and "I don't think…". So maybe ease up on the snarkyness.

Doctors cleared him for it and he's visiting multiple teams. We really have nothing to lose. If it's a hit then he's immediately our best or 2nd best CB. He can't play well put him on our 53 man IR roster
Oh I've always been a fan, but when I hear spinal fusion I think of joining two vertebrate together which usually creates a loss of motion. No clue what his issue was, but that's not a nothing surgery and it's hard for me to picture him moving around fluidly and hitting people. Lots of factors with that type of surgery (from what little I know and have seen with people in my life).
maybe the term spinal fusion was used incorrectly when reported. Would assume he's fine if he's cleared.

One of my best friends had a spinal fusion and can hardly walk now…Not every fusion works out great and leads to a guy being able to play NFL football. Sounds like Samuel had a great recovery if he's able to still play.
We will see I'm glad your fusion worked out, constant back pain is awful.

I know that if anything spinal happened to me, I'd be toast. My mobility and stuff would be gone. But I'm not an in shape ripped black guy who's father is a legend and has access to state of the art medical equipment. I think he'll be fine

That's a great gif, but we need the one where they turn into fat Gogeta because they messed up the fusion dance. Would have been a perfect response to "not all fusions work out great"

Bad back or not, Samuel is not a good tackler.
https://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/196009-49ers-asante-samuel-visit-monday/
"It's worth noting that Samuel has displayed tackling inconsistency over his career. He has earned a PFF tackling grade of 42.7 or lower in three of his four NFL seasons, including a career-low 29.5 grade in 2024 after missing a career-high 14 tackles the previous year."

I've had back issues for over 60 years. They're now so bad I have trouble walking very far. I considered surgery but the results are too uncertain. I've talked to many people that had surgery and some were better, some were about the same and several were worse than they were before. Back surgery is one of the riskiest surgeries there is as far as results go. I've tried prednisone shots but they only work for about a month. Plus they mess with your liver.
