I don't deny that this is what is the most likely thing we
will do. But I don't think it is what we
should do: striking earlier rather than wait for the deadline makes more sense if we're sitting at 5-1 but with a bunch of tough injuries. People assume that BA will be the same receiver he was before the injury when he gets back. Perhaps he will be long term, but I can't see him being effective this year. Turf toes and hamstrings are also debilitating long-terms niggles with significant chances of setbacks, as our history shows: not just Purdy now, but also Willis and the Seattle receiver we got as a FA in the 2000s - forget his name now. Hamstrings sound innocuous, but like adductor injuries take forever to clear up for many people, and are tricky AF not to reinjure.
Right now the team can afford to sit tight for one more week. Our record is a bit fraudulent: we could have easily started 0-5 had the chips fallen the wrong way, a bit like 2010 when we were there or thereabouts for many games but still started 0-and-I don't remember how many. If we beat a legitimate-looking team like Tampa away, or if we blow some weaker opponent out for a change, then we are legit and we can't afford to hope that our injured players will come back soon and in a good enough shape to help out.
