I remember the 1986 draft was panned by the media. Got a D grade by many pundits.
They didn't like it because Walsh traded down many times and picked many players unknown to the media
Turned out it was the greatest draft in history.

Rd 5 Pat Miller

Had the zone been around then, Walsh would have been slammed for drafting Pat Miller!

So, yeah, the day after grades mean jack.

I mean 2022 deserved it. Just because mr irrelevant panned out doesn't mean it was a great draft.

It wasn't that long ago that we were raging about this regime not caring about edge rushers because they were content with Cassius Marsh.

They're not going to show their hand and they're going to prop up the guys they have now until they can find replacements. As a reminder to some they talked about Marsh like he was Reggie White in his prime and then once they were able to add legit edge rushers they cut his ass.

I am bookmarking this comment. I know this is BS day and season, but they have largely ignored the o line their entire tenure. I wont be holding my breath.

Hi Genus, remember this I told you...

There were 4 fewer temas in 1986 which gave you a better chance of getting the player you wanted. Players were also coming out of college with more stable careers. Staying 3 or 4 years with one team instead of jumping around like mercenaries. This could give you a better look at their abilities.

Just for the record Walsh had some whiffs during his time with the NIners. It's overlooked becuase of the players like Montana, Rice, Lott, Haley and Craig that became huge stars. Walsh was great at getting players he liked but he wasn't perfect. No coach or GM is.

PFF is awful for college stuff.

I don't trust PFF on many issues.

So you guys trust PFF when they use their data to show things like QB pressure when it makes Bosa look good?

But not when PFF makes us look bad (draft grade)? Lol

Today players stay in college for 5-6 years, and they play for multiple teams so you get to see them in a few different environments. Not to mention there was no email, video streaming, or social media so you had to actually find players back in the day. Not to mention all of the data sources.

I'm wondering how anyone found out that the media was giving out draft grades back in the day. Sportscenter wasn't what it is today and newspapers were almost the only way to get news back then.

How did you find this info maxsmart?

2022 was quite interesting. No first round pick from the Trey Lance mistake and everyone not named Purdy is already off the team or hasn't proven much at all. However, if not for Purdy, we'd have a different head coach and GM.

This is why he should get PAID!

its called PRO Football Focus not COLLEGE football focus for a reason. They need year round content so they got into college football aka the draft. In the NFL you have a baseline of talent you don't have in college. So there numbers aren't all the useful.
Someone in here mentioned that after 1 pm Pacific today, any free agents signed don't count towards the comp pick formula.
