This, plus you can't make a player sign an extension.
So if a player is confident they will make it to the end of their contract healthy or already have been paid, they can just dare the franchise tag.

Yep, it takes two to tango so to speak, both parties, 49ers, & Player need to agree to what both sides are comfortable with, not like we could just go to X player, give him an offer, and he has to accept it, the one with Dre does make me mad, but they were worried about the Achilles after the SB, had he not suffered that, he may have had an even larger market, or the 49ers would have wisened up & extended him ahead of time like they did with Lenoir.

Why does this regime wait until the last minute to sign guys? Do they think they will get deals the longer they wait?
All that happens is that we end up overpaying every single time.

Totally agree on Kittle. With what receivers are making, in no world was he taking less than 20 million. It wouldn't have made a difference with Kittle. Now Aiyuk is a different story, but that's a year ago. The Lenoir contract disproves they haven't learned.

Back to the draft, idc who we take as long as that player is filling a need, or is just too good to pass up, like Hunter, Carter, Jeanty, but they won't be at 11 IMO, we should, key word SHOULD, get a tier 1 player IMO at 11, if they don't like what's there, move down, get an extra 3rd, if Sanders is there, then you take calls, trade down 100% cause Brock is our guy, will have a deal, same with Kittle, I don't like the low balling they do, I know for a fact they low ball players, they low balled Bosa, Aiyuk, Deebo, Kittle, Warner, if they'd just come in, say "This is our best offer", take it or come up with some sorta reply from the agent & player, so I expect Kittle, & Brock to be extended, I see Jauan maybe in season, as for Warner, need to get that done, he has 2yrs left, but a lot of void years, so they can spread it out, and he hasn't shown any signs of wearing down.

Agreed 100%, said since the season ended, even in season, Kittle will reset the market at $20M or more a year, he's well worth every penny of that, I agree that they've learned when they did the DMo deal, but wish they would have done something with Dre, makes no sense, he probably would have rejected it, he signed a 2yr deal, now he had a chance to be a UFA, got $10.5M APY, that's so f**king doable for the 49ers, why they didn't Idk why, I know we had an 11th hour pitch, but it's clear he wants to be LB1, the team leader, but I don't see him winning much of anything, AFC is loaded, KC, BUF, BAL, even CIN if Chase & Higgins w/Burrow play up to standards, they're likely 3rd best in West, LA Chargers have a solid roster.
A name I'm surprised is still available in FA is Asante Samuel Jr., I'm hoping we can get him after May 12th when players no longer count against comp pick formula.

ASJ is dealing with a severe stinger issues in his shoulder. It's also not a new injury, it's something he's dealt with his whole life and will continue to deal with. The only team that brought him in for a visit was the Cardinals and supposedly the Chargers made a low offer to bring him back.

If we don't get an impact player at number 11 due to drafting for need, we can blame all of our misses over the past few years. Continually attempting to make up for issue such as replacing Buckner for the 3rd time, missing on edge rushers each year, trading away all that draft capital for Lance, missing on 3rd round RB's each year.
With that said, if we continue to get lucky in the lower rounds (Purdy/Kittle) we can continue to compete for second place.
My hope is that we get the best players in the draft regardless of position, using cheap post draft free agents to fill out the roster. This way we have impact players on rookie deals for the next few years. Continuing this strategy every year should get us number 6.

Pearsal and Cowing working with Purdy? Plus Pearsal is a first round pick, time to give him a shot to shine.

What a great pickup....
Big deal. We probably won't play a lot anyway.
