Bad timing. That's all. Not a big deal

Dave is Cohn's polar opposite these days. There isn't a move the 49ers make which isn't brilliant with him. If I ever dislike a move the 49ers make and want to feel better about it I go look at Dave's take on it.
I think the reason people are souring on him though is he's incredibly arrogant. He can deliver his message without acting so superior to people. That's why I appreciate our man jonny who provides excellent information but never talks down to people who know less than him(and Lombardi is a poser just like Grant btw)

I honestly think there is talk of this in the front office. And hell, if there isn't at least the gaming out of moving on from Purdy, the FO isn't doing their job.
And they love Purdy.
How are we rebuilding?
The over-reactions are strong after 2 days of free agency.
Trading Deebo, letting a bunch of solid players walk, releasing Juice, not making any huge free agent moves yet, we were last in the division last year and our best two offensive weapons are coming off big injuries, one of them with a chronic achilis condition.
And not one of the players we let go made any impact at all last year.
They pretty much all did.
Wrong
CB- Charvarius Ward - Reynardo Green
OG- Aaron Banks - Ben Bartch
FB- Kyle Juszcyk - Luke Farrell
WR- Deebo Samuel - Demarcus Robinson
DE- Leonard Floyd - High draft pick
DT- Maliek Collins - Evan Anderson
S- Talanoa Hufunga - didn't play in 2025- Malik Mustapha
DT- Javon Hargrave - didn't play in 2025 - Kevin Givens
LB- Dre Greenlaw - didn't play in 2025 - High draft pick
RB- Elijah Mitchell - Didn't play in 2025 - Issac Guerendo
OT- Jaylon Moore - Backup in 2025
QB- Josh Dobbs - Backup in 2025
We don't lose much at all and saved about 300 million dollars of contracts. In fact, I think most of the replacements will have bigger impacts than the guys who left.
We have work to do on the Dline but there are 30-35 starting calibre defensive linemen in this draft. It's the deepest draft ever for linemen. And rookies can't be any worse than Floyd and Collins who were among the worst at their positions vs the run in the league
The losses are completely overstated. Greenlaw is the only guy who is a player worth the contract he got.
You did a good job showing the replacements we have lined up for most of the guys we let go. Juice would've been another one I'd love to keep but in a way maybe letting him go pushes Kyle to go more 11 looks where sometimes we've ran better out of.
I would've liked to keep Jaylon Moore but dude got starter money for crying out loud. You're not going to pay starter money to your swing OT.
I also felt Collins we should've kept but given the cuts on the DL the team is prioritizing run defense.

Bills and Rams gutted their teams recently and are still competitive.

Good point. I remember being shocked by the cuts the Bills made last offseason. We know how close they were to playing in the SB.
Not saying that's going to happen with us since we don't have Josh Allen but we still have some really good players to build around and an easy schedule and good coaches in place.

Reminder to some of us what actual devastating losses look like during the offseason....

Yeah, I think the common denominator there is a great Qb.

The positive is that a lot of young players will get playing time and experience. Good development opportunities and usually you get a few really good players or discover really good players. Should be a younger faster team.
We have missed that on defense as we got older.
Worried about the offensive line though. I think the D line will be okay if they add some depth in FA and draft well.

Absolutely need a DT and an Edge. I know it's a good d-line draft especially at DT, but we are so damn thin and you don't want everyone to be rookies.

Offensive line needs a new Center and depth/replacements for Trent/McKivitz in the future.

Look at what the Rams have done with 2 rookie DE and DTs.

Who is replacing Banks and is he good?

I'm not saying it can't be done but we also don't have any depth there. Like we have nothing on the edge but Bosa. Our best DT right now is Anderson. There has to be some kinda adds other than just rookies across the DL

Bartch and Burford both looked better at LG last year than Banks and didn't have the luxury of having Trent Williams playing next to them most of the time. I imagine the 49ers will have an open competition there between those guys and likely a rookie.

I really want Azeez Ojulari but I'm sure they will bring in some guys in for cheap FA deals.
