No. If that were the case we'd have a team full of young cheap elite players. Our elite core of players is all older guys. Kittle, Trent, CMC, Bosa

the 2021 draft was a disaster
the 2022 draft was a disaster, saved only by Brock who as last pick in the draft might as well be an UDFA
the 2023 draft was ATROCIOUS

The only bad pick in the 2021 draft was Trey Lance. 5 of the guys in that drafted have gone on to sign 2nd contracts. That rarely happens.

BAD NEWS: The 49ers are literally getting rear-ended (think of another word that starts with a B and ends with a D) in free agency
GOOD NEWS: The losses are due to the fact that the 49ers drafted extremely well, especially in the late rounds.

There is a lot of talent leaving SF. This includes some key players in the last run to the Super Bowl. But I also know that Shana-Lynch probably have replacements in mind. These two have drafted extremely well. They have nailed draft after draft after draft. Were there some brain farts in some of those drafts? Yes, without a doubt. Trey Lance was the biggest. There were others.

But they made up for those brain farts by drafting extraordinarily well on the back end. As much as I HATE to see Hufanga leave, I also know that Lynch will find a replacement in the draft. As much as I hate to see Jaylon Moore leave, it's probably a sign that the 49ers will address this position in the upcoming draft. Which is something that most 49er fans want.

Hold on. Just hold on.

Blessed?

Not quite. You had it by much!

Last year we signed Floyd and Gross-matos. Combined they got as much as Danielle Hunter got. Stop pissing away money on backups. Pay the premier players and draft the backups. This TE we just got isn't worth learning his name. Certainly not buying his jersey or any in 2025 by the looks of it.

No s**t man. I could care less if it was like just over the league minimum but 11 mil guaranteed???? I'll backup George for 3 mil

Trey Lance was effectively traded for 3 first round picks so that pick has a lot of weight
Aaron banks when all said and done was not a great pick imo, but its arguable.
Trey Sermon was a bad pick
Ambry Thomas...ewww

Eli, Lenoir and Huf were good late round picks

OK maybe you right. It wasnt that bad, but Lance's price and Sermon overshadow the good picks imo

again, what's wrong w/the backup TEs? did we not draft two TEs 2 years ago?

Everyone has a valid opinion. Personally? The 2022 draft was not all that bad. Yes, part of the deal was getting Brock with the final pick. But we still got Brock.

Way, way, way too early to pass judgment on the 2023 draft, imo. Moody could still develop. So could Winters. As badly as I wanted to see Winters in action last season, and did not, you can't give up on the guy yet.

Actually 6 players from 2021 got second contracts: Banks, Thomas, Moore, Lenoir, Hufanga, Mitchell. Meanwhile, Sermon (who had potential) bounced around. They had a great draft.

2022 was not so great, save Purdy

2023 schools still out, still waiting to see if the LBs develop, and the low rent DE. But they didn't have many picks.
Lynch, rebuild mode? Want to kill Purdy??? Wtf is happening?
Hopefully Lynch has some big trade plans or knows something that no one else knows

I really wouldnt get hopes up. I think re-signing Greenlaw is probably the best news we could get

There was that leak that the Niners are going to focus on the draft this year, for a reason imo

He knows we have to get the cap under control and it's gonna be painful until we do.

2021 - hell of a draft. Lenior is a star and a bunch of other guys got second contracts as was already pointed out.

2022 - atrocious. Purdy saved this draft but still awful.

2023 - Looks atrocious so far.

The saving grace is that we landed Purdy and 2024 has the potential to be a great draft. This is all why spending money big bucks in free agency does not make sense. This team has expensive all pro vets. We need young cheap talent. They better knock the 2025 draft out of the park.

That's a lot of what got us in this mess in the first place. Which is why these 2 need to go. They miss, miss, miss in the draft. Let guys go in FA. Plus trade away draft picks for busts. The mere fact that we are rebuilding after 8 years of rebuilding should tell you all you need to know.
