Not sure they had the cap space to do so, so it depends on the structure of the contract. The point is, Laken was an ironman and actually made the pro bowl. Hes a very good guard. Why not pay him ?

Are people really praising Lynch for the atrocious mismanagement of the Jimmy G situation?

False. Cut Jimmy, eat 8 or whatever million due to injury/surgery stuff.
Pay Laken, have Banks compete for RG spot or release him if he's a total bum.

Boom, you solved one problem with Jimmys money. And probably have a few more dollars leftover to throw at an adequate safety. Wasn't too hard, was it ?

Not a problem this year, but the 13 per for the next two years are MUCH less fun when the $$ is hitting on our resignings.

After the Bosa resigning we are going to be carrying tip top of the market contracts at minimum six position groups, which is doable, but not something I've ever heard of before.

My guess is next year--after Lance has a year of starting under his belt but is still on his pre-5th year rookie deal-- is the year where they push money around and go all in.

The greatest myth ever told was Jimmy's contract holding our FO back from making the team better. As you just saw, whether cut or restructured, it really didn't have an effect on signing their own or others...if they wanted too. There's a ton of ways to structure it for 2023.

It's true. He made good on a really bad situation. At worst we have the best 1, 2 in the league. 2 good QB's isn't bad to have. QB's often get injured. The have the deepest QB room in the league. A talented one too. It's not really bad at all.

The cap space is not made out of rubber. Eventually theres not more players you can afford to sign. For all the talk of OL being a problem, going from Laken to Banks is a clear downgrade at least short-term. This is a move a team like the Rams doesn't usually make. Whats the point of going Banks over Laken ? Money.
What Jimmy's contract held in hostage ? Money.

In your opinion, what would have been the perfect way to handled Jimmy G? Release him back in March?

The greatest myth ever told is the cap doesn't exist. Tell that to Tyreek Hill.

No way this is the best 1, 2 in the league.

Jimmy is a very limited QB and we don't even know for sure what we have in Trey.

Plus, we now have greatly beefed up our other weakness…DBs., while adding a rocket to WRs, and adding to depth at RB. With best 1-2 Qb /backup in league, OL is only weakness at start of season. If Trey comes even close to being as advertised, we are definitely one of top 3-4 teams in league based on talent plus coaching/ GM.

I hear you. I'm just noting they could have paid Laken LESS than he normally would make in 2022 if 1) they wanted him and 2) felt he was worth it long term.

Jimmy's temp. fake cap hit had nothing to do with it.
