Last year, Lynch rolled the dice with Verrett and Moseley as our two starting CB's. Verrett got injured in Week 1, Moseley missed some games and we had rookies/guys off the street starting for us. Demeco Ryans somehow made it work though... Moseley got healthy, and Ambry Thomas came on at the end of the year. In the end, it was enough to get us to the NFCCG, but essentially, we just couldn't handle Cooper Kupp and OBJ. Close, but no cigar.

This year... my gut feeling is that we, again, have a playoff roster. The CB, RB, and Special Teams areas have gotten a lot more depth. D-Line and LB are really strong, as are the offensive skill positions.

Last year's question mark was at CB. This year?

1.) Trey Lance
2.) The Offensive Line (Except Trent Williams) --- IMO, this is where we're really rolling the dice. Obviously, a QB change is a monumental shift, but we've been preparing for Trey over the last season... But O-Line... that's going to be an interesting one:
  • Aaron Banks, LG --- Second year player, this would be his first year starting
  • Jake Brendel / Daniel Brunskill, C --- Two unheralded veteran players fighting for the starting job
  • Spencer Burford, RG --- Very encouraging that he's probably going to win the starting job... but he's a rookie.
  • Mike McGlinchey, RT --- He's been very inconsistent in his career. Sometimes it looks like he's going to be a great RT... and then, he doesn't.

Of course, Banks and Burford could turn out to be very good guards and our guys for the next 5+ years... McGlinchey could ball out in his contract year... and Brendel/Brunskill do a great job. But I'm just pointing out... they're question marks.

I feel good with what John Lynch and the FO did this offseason. Let's see how it goes.

I like the three you mentioned above. Banks, Brendel, and Burford. I have doubts about Mcglinchey. Specially his durability. I think - if I had a preference - maybe move Brunskill to RT? I do know that Brunskill has been very durable during his career and a lot of folks here say Brunskill is a better Tackle than he is an interior lineman. I'm hoping Brunskill gets healed up fast from his Hammy so we can see him at Right Tackle.

I really like Poe at guard, he (I think) dominated the 4th quarter in the run game and pass game against those 4th quarter backup guys. I'd like to see him play with the ones and see how he does.

Agree 💯%, this years draft class looks solid. Wowmack, Purdy, Burford, Drake, Gray all look like solid picks.

Good call.

And the FA pick-ups are also looki9ng impressive.

Great point, Ray Ray, Oren, and Burks have been pretty impressive in the Green Bay game. As Kyle said earlier in the year when the first signed these guys, he basically said they saved three draft picks because they could sign these three guys.
The best news about this team is of the starters on both sides of the ball, close to 90% of them are comprised of home grown talent (picks/udfas). And people consider this team a super bowl roster. If that doesn't tell you our front office knows how to build a team I don't know what else does!

It would have been nice If we had at least thought about upgrading our punter.

Robbie Gould will be 40 years old, this time next year. I think I'd like to see a young Kicker picket to compete against Robbie in next years draft.

Also like the Killer B's

I have zero faith in McG

I also really like Poe - he's tenacious like Derrick Deese

Gould still looks pretty good... i haven't checked but i wonder if there are any decent kicker FAs next year

I do recall, somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but he was injured two years ago for a couple of games, and last year he was dinged up a bit on several games. So I'm worried about Gould's age. Agree, though, he is still money in the playoffs. One of the reasons that I think you look to have competition at Kicker is to get younger, more talented, and of course - injury and durability improvement.

To Robbie's credit he is in fantastic shape so he could kick many more years, but yes it seems we are soon at the point we need to try and find young K and P again. I hope they hit this time at punter.
Ya'll see that Baldy D-line breakdown of the Vikes game wow it's a good one
