This is basically how I feel - Smith wasn't used correctly by Tomsula or Kelly, so his two years here were more of a waste of everyone's time than it was an indictment of his play, IMO.

Hopefully they make some moves to improve the WR, because now they just added another hole to plug.

he was never worth his salary the day he walked through the door in my opinion. it was a terrible signing we tremendously over paid for. He could never run the full route tree, has middling hands in traffic and the one thing he did have elite speed has diminished year by year. he is only useful with a true number one drawing attention enough underneath to pull safeties into the box so he can go one on one for,the deep ball when his deep routes should be opening up stuff for everyone else.

what kills me are people who have been screaming for major changes in the last two years.. now we have some guys who are not afraid to blow s**t up and make the right moves that may not be the popular ones and now people are mad,,, with as bad as we are.. the only way to fix it is to blow it all up and start over.. smith gone is good. you can cut hyde to in my opinion. screw it. you can not scream for change and then as soon as it is made. start to back track on it

I am waiting to see moves that make the team better not worse or the same.
You would have to wait until you see the final W L record and where the defense and offense rank. Just because they don't make the moves you want doesn't mean they will be worse.

I expect a lot more than just not getting worse. They better be at rock bottom.
Getting rid of Smith and Hyde will not make the team better.
And you know this how? Have they held the draft? Has free agency begun? Have they played any games?

Ohhh, we should take your word for it. Lol

What are you saying I am claiming to know?
The draft and free agency doesn't have anything to do with what I posted.
It does. If they cut Smith, do you not think they will replace him and his production? You are just posting like you can see into the future as if the the team is worse without Smith. He was a bad WR for us wasn't the best on the team.

I remember when they cut Boldin and replaced him with a CFL player. I will be satisfied with the Smith move if the 49ers have three WRs on the team next year that outperform T Smith in 2017.

seems easy enough Smith has contributed almost nothing since coming here.

I don't remember Lynch and Shanahan cutting Boldin. New GM, new coach. Not holding the sins of the past against them before they have a chance to field a team.

Also, Boldin wasn't cut. He was a veteran free agent and wanted to play for a better team.

He led the NFL in yards per reception in 2015 and when he had 683 yards receiving that year only Boldin had more and the next leading receiver had less than 400 yards. We'll see if he has a better year than the third best WR has for the 49ers in 2017.

My bad, the 49ers FO let him walk and didn't replace him with anyone good.

That I agree with. The FO was so dysfunctional at the time they couldn't replace him adequately if they wanted to. That's how we end up grossly overpaying someone like Torrey Smith to come here.

Seems like you are more focused on individual stats than wins. Each his own though.

so your highest paid receivers min bar is barely scratching out top three on a bad team...fair enough, i still question if he will pull it off.

I am hoping that dysfunction is gone with Baalke.

I have noticed that when players and the team have better stats, the team usually wins more than when the team and players have worse stats.

The money means nothing to me. The 49ers have tons of it and haven't been spending it as it becomes less valuable when it is rolled over year after year. I hope the team ends up with three better receivers than Smith. I want the WR corps to be more talented than they have been.

That should be pretty easy. They resigned 1 that was better, and most likely will have 2 more that out produce what Smith did last year.
