To me, cutting Torrey is absolutely unnecessary, almost a stupid move.

$9.5 mill next year is reason enough.

I am ready in Santa Clara to give him all the weed he wants.

I dont think his problem is a lack of weed.
Lol @ guys acting like we just cut an all pro. Torrey was just going through the motions trying to collect a paycheck. He may be a great guy, but he wasn't a great football player for the niners. I watched him half ass it out there plenty of times. He wasn't worth anywhere near what he was getting paid.

This is a rebuild after all. Torrey wasn't going to be the difference between us getting to the playoffs now or even 3 years down the line when he's a bit older, a bit slower, and his body has taken more punishment. His game is built on out running the defender. He's not shifty, and he can't box someone out the way Boldin could. I'm not sad to see him go at all.

I am all in on the Shanalynch connection. If they deem Torey not a good fit for their plans right now then I trust it. T.Smith didn't seem too butt hurt about it and actually revealed something I guess I really didn't realize. According to him the 49ers may have the best community pr/outreach dept in the entire league.

Nobody denying Torrey was a class act but he didn't produce, at the end of the day you want someone at your job that is a good people person but sucks at his job and brining down the business or you want someone that's gonna get the job done

They still don't have that person.

On top of this he isn't a prototypical WCO WR. Even when he played in Baltimore he wasn't a WCO kind of guy. I believe Shanahan will go after route running smart WRs who have a knack for finding the open spot.

Suddenly, Christian McCaffrey looks like a much better SF pick. The guy is a production machine and could play all over the field in Shanahan's system. It would take a bunch of maneuvering to wind up with him but if they trade back I hope they might at least think about it. Trading back and then up to get two first rounders this year would be nice. I'm putting in my order for Barnett and McCaffrey!

Its being reported that the Eagles will go after him hard. A Jordan Matthews-Torrey duo along with Ertz gives Carson Wentz some nice options. I hope he does well.

We need to learn to circumvent our desire for him.

I think the biggest reason he was released is because he is not a good blocker. In Shanahan's run game WRs must be able to block. Go look at how Sanu and Julio blocked on run plays. They were studs. Smith was just not strong enough and tough enough to do that. It will be easy to replace his speed and with better blocking ability as well.
People aren't happy about cutting this bum? Dude was horrendous. I'd much rather go out and sign a guy like DeSean Jackson.
