Would not mind seeing Reid, Bethea, Brock, Brooks, Kilgore, Carradine, or Mike Davis get traded away.

And play who at center?

Kilgore definitely needs to be improved upon but who is the alternative Martin ?

Several centers available in FA. Mangold, Tretter, Schwenke, Wisniewski are a few names. Either that, or as some have suggested, Beadles could be converted to C full time since he has experience there.

I don't think it's ridiculous and we shouldn't spend just to spend. We're not one or even five players away from competing(unless it's a franchise QB) so if someone isn't a great fit or wants way too much then we should pass.

That cap room will come in handy if we start nailing our draft picks.

However the one guy I really hope we go after hard and we will have to overpay to get is Dont'a Hightower. I think he'd be a great addition to this team not only with his talent but what he brings to the locker room/field as far as leadership. And the Pats letting him go without the franchise tag is basically them saying, see what offers you get and come back to us and we'll either match or give you our blessing. Now with CA taxes and the state of the 49ers that offer better be pretty damn substantial for the Pats to not match but I think he'd be worth it.

That is a consideration. The top marginal tax rate in CA is 13.3% vs 5.2% in MA. That means Lynch will have to pay 8% more than the Pats to stay even. In that case, why would Hightower leaves the Patriots?

Just for comparison, here are the top rates for some other states:

Colorado - 4.63%
Arizona - 4.54%
Illinois - 3.75%
Wisconsin - 7.65%
N. Carolina - 5.75%
NY - 8.82%
PA - 3.07%

So the 49ers will have to overpay 5-10% just to make up for the high tax rates here.

The not-so-Golden State.

Lynch is taking out the garbage.

Question is. Is he going to bring in the same amount of garbage? Stay tuned.

I'm never a fan of cutting before replaced but this is probably a professional courtesy to Torrey to allow him a fair chance at FA.

Could also be strategic to drop another WR into the pool to possibly effect the cost of grabbing another.
I didn't see Torrey as a good fit in Shanny's quick passing attack so I'm glad he's going.

Spotrac @spotrac
The #49ers cleared $4.675M in 2017 cap by releasing WR Torrey Smith, who earned $16M of his $40M contract.
