Report: 49ers to 'go hard' for Alshon Jeffery

Cooks on one side, Alshon on the other...

LEHS FKN GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know... I don't know how I feel about Jeffery. He's talented and entering his prime, but he's relatively brittle, hasn't had a 1,000+ yard season since 2014. Not to mention he recently got busted.

Would I be excited to get him? Sure. We're badly deprived of WR talent and he's only 27. But I don't want to have to spend more than what the Bengals are paying AJ Green but it might be necessary to lure him in.

I agree, but we'll need reputable WRs if we want to attract QBs like Kirk to come here!

I'd take the risk. He's still young, about to enter his prime. I can deal with the injury history because when healthy he is highly productive. He's a legit #1 WR, Shanahan would make good use of him.

Problem is we won't be paying him like he had a down year. Probably gets 14 mill or so a year when he deserves 10-12 mill. So long as we can keep the signing bonus low and maybe have incentives tied into the 14 mill average then I'm good with the risk.

Yeah, but given our cap flexibility its a non-issue. $12 mil or 14 mil doesn't matter so much to me. I'm not going to lose out on Jeffery over $2 mil per year. I'd also bet we get more value and production out of Jeffery for that price than Torrey Smith at $8 mil per season.

Could be argued that Smiths' value goes up too with the addition of a legitimate threat opposite him. To clarify, I wasn't saying to pass because of the difference but he's going to get a contract he doesn't deserve coming off of last year.

If Alshon stays healthy he could end up being one of the biggest WR threats in the league, especially with a good QB. He's going to demand 12-14 per year easily. Is he worth it and would he improve the offense immensely? I think so.

Denver with Romo? That's kind of an Elway move.

Brett Favre one year deal on roids slinging it. Nah for real doe, Marshall IMO is worth a look on a two year deal depending on how the other WRs go in FA. He could be plan C now perhaps.

I think Marshall is going to a random playoff team like the Texans. Him and Hopkins would nice with Romo throwing

That's the thing though, free agency hasn't started yet.

LOLOL
i know that . and i stand by what i said. maybe earl can be something, maybe

No you didn't. Otherwise you wouldn't have criticized Lynch for already signing 2 decent players before anyone is even allowed to talk to the unrestricted free agent class. Lynch has been ahead of the game.

Mitchell and Williams are role players for the defense. They aren't supposed to be game changers, just part of a solid foundation.

As someone said, you can't win FA, you can only lose it. It's not about making a splash or raising your stock. It's about the underlying fundamentals. When we look back at FA a year from now the question is: Did you make the team better?
I'm a big fan of pre draft smoke screens . Plus I'm actually interested in a niner free agency ? Its been how long ?!!

Can Shanahan use Jeffrey like he used Julio Jones? I know Jones has been the better WR but I'm talking about size wise, they're comparable.

Alshon doesnt have the speed. That was why we didn't draft him to begin with. All Hail AJ Jenkins

I agree Julio is faster. Apart from that is Alshon a good run blocker?

Agreed. This is why it's critical to have your systems in place and identify perfect fit-players for these systems. That's how you WIN.

Examples IMHO:
RCB A.J. Bouye - You now have two press CB's for the SF/Seattle 4-3 under defense (Robinson + Bouye), like Sherman + Shead
ZWR Kenny Britt - Big-bodied ZWR that is critical to Kyle's WCO
NT/1T Brandon Williams - Immovable object that takes up two who then allows your others to attack/pass rush (Seattle)
C J.C. Tretter - Kyle leans heavily on veteran C's who can take the heat off the QB (see, Alex Mack)
WILL Kevin Minter (4.67) - Self-explanatory need
QB Brian Hoyer - Experience with the WCO
SAM Malcolm Smith (4.44) - Perfect fit for the 4-3 under defense and has already played in it
YWR Jeremy Kerley - Slot WR's are very important in Kyle's offense
FB Patrick DiMarco - Who better for Kyle's offense? Already knows it!
QB Ryan Nassib (depth) - Young and has learned the WCO in NY
XWR Ted Ginn Jr. (depth) - Speed outside and insurance for Torrey and ST ability
LDE/5T Chris Jones (depth) - Backup to Buckner; edge setter who can add a bit of pass rush
RB DuJuan Harris (RFA) - RB's who are quick and can catch well and make people miss in space and can be split out wide
