It all comes back to good coaching. I think good coaching - gets you those compensatory picks for up and coming minority coaches, and on top of that gets you 3rd round compensatory picks for guys that you picked in the 6th round and developed (DJ Jones, 5th round pick/traded for Laken Tomlinson).

we need a huge upgrade in the offensive line.. we need a pass rusher. we need a safety, reliable second tight end. and we need to remove the jimmy stench which means we need a respectable back up

CCiowa, always good to see your positiveness . Just keep in mind, during those 5 super bowls, 49ers made it to the playoffs 20+ times, and lost the Conference championships 5 times. (from Joe's reign to Steve's reign). So far we've only lost *one* conference championship during ShanaLynch's time. Keep that in you *optimistic* mind.

Four of those losses were really painful. The Roger Craig fumble against that kept us from having a chance to 3 peat. The loss to Washington when the officials called PI and holding against Lott and Wright. The 2 losses to the Cowboys in successive years. The Cowboys were really good at that time so it was a case of just not being good enough. We loaded up the next year and got past them on the way to our 5th SB win.

the washington game was the only time in the history of cc that he blamed a loss on refs... old school fans will remember one of the worst was 1972 vs dallas when we blew the lead late

I was at the last Niner game at Kezar when we lost the first of our NFC title games to Dallas.

and every conference title loss took a little bit out of me.... however it is unacceptable to go to a super bowl and lose.... it is unacceptable to be happy with our franchise to just be happy that we got there. it is unacceptable we did not give the ball to gore or dixon on second and goal from the five. it is unacceptable that we stunningly lost a super bowl and a title game when we had ten point teams in both games late. i do not get a rats ass that other teams would kill to have that track record... i hate all other teams. this is our hill. these are our beans, i hate everything today. not cutting jimmy is unacceptable
Once the NFL rewrote the rule book by implementing rules *directly* countermanding Eddie Debartolo's super bowl winning strategies (ie. pay for the super bowls with lots of money) you can't win on those strategies anymore. It's not *realistic* to win every super bowl you appear in, during the era of the Eddie Debartolo Cap rules. The best you can hope for is the Patriot's version of the 49er dynasty. Patriots (during Brady's reign) 6-3 in super bowl win/loss. You are going to win some and lose some from here on in. That's better than not even appearing in them at all, nowadays.

I found my ticket stub. Jan. 3, 1971. Price was $12.00 ! Wow how times have changed. It was freezing cold that day so I used a lot of anti freeze.
CCIOWA, how would you have handled the situation this year. It kinda sounds like you would just have cut Jimmy right after the season and not even try to trade him. What would you have done different?

You say they have no plan but it could very well be:

Plan A - Trade him (time is ticking on this but its not looking good)
Plan B - Keep him as backup
Plan C - Cut him
(Before you soil your pants you can switch plan B and C)

I just dont get the complaining. OMG nobody wants Jimmy!!! Ok we overvalued him. What exactly is wrong with that? Is 2022 already over before it began bc they overvalued Jimmy???

i would not have insisted on two second round picks for him. and when it was becoming obvious in the last two days there was no market for him.. i would have cut him and moved on
Taking a look around the league, especially in the last couple of days, i think we are very well ran compared to a lot of teams. Lynch did botch the Jimmy situation that's for sure but we could be in way worse situations.

i am,. that is why i do not believe it is good to go to super bowls and lose them , and that is why it is good. i have one favorite team in the niners and hate all other teams. i am objective because i have no blind loyalty to lynch and kyle which does prevent one from being objective
