On the money side, the 49ers have the cap room to keep him on the roster. Also, the replacement cost of Brooks in the lineup is the value of the his dead money plus the value of the replacement players contract. So if you really think you'll find a better and cheaper option his contract would have to be less than the difference between brooks salary and the dead money when he's released, not including any mandatory payouts to Brooks.

He's a valuable player but at this stage of his career and our move to the 4-3 under defense, he really doesn't have much of a home anymore. But many teams still need a quality 3-4 SAM and since we'll only have $800K hits the books and his contract is reasonable, we may be able to get a decent draft pick for him and a win-win for everybody.

One thing this does do, is gig WASH a little bit, letting Snyder know that we are considering trading down, and HE isn't the only one interested in that #2 pick. I think it was a great ploy, in that it gave absolutely no info about what are plans are with #2 pick yet it told Snyder, hey, this pick is going to be bartered....and not just by you. You wanna trade? Well, bubba, get off your ass and do it now....before we find someone else with a really good deal that we can't turn down.

I think this was a pre-planned Lynch statement, and it was aimed solely at one guy. Danny "the gift" Snyder. *

* "gift" as in the one that keeps on giving...or bumbling, if you so choose.

As i posted earlier elsewhere, Lynch is going to make us famous...and i don't mean like little Danny Snyder.
