So many flavors, why be salty Lou?
Last month, ESPN analyst Louis Riddick was a candidate to become the General Manager of the 49ers. At the time, Riddick labeled San Francisco the best place for a new coach of any of the six teams that had a head-coaching vacancy.
"I think the most appealing job is the one where you're going to be able to go in and start fresh with a G.M. and a head coach," Riddick said. "I like the situation that is coming to bear here in San Francisco. I like what Jed York is trying to do."
The 49ers later passed over Riddick for the G.M. job and hired John Lynch, with Kyle Shanahan as head coach. And now Riddick doesn't see that 49ers job as quite so appealing.
Today on ESPN, Riddick ranked the six teams that hired new head coaches in order of how good a situation they have, and the 49ers ranked sixth out of the six.
So what changed between then, when Riddick saw the 49ers as the best job, and now, when he sees it as the worst job?
He was a job candidate sucking up when he made the previous remarks whereas his latest comments come as an analyst.

.@MichaelDavSmith inheriting cap space, draft picks, & the freedom/time to do the job is the best. It still has the the most work to be done

The ex-Denver Broncos director of college scouting is highly regarded throughout the NFL. The hire of Peters quieted some of the guffaws directed at the Niners for handing their head gig to a former TV analyst.
Lynch poached Peters from the Broncos thanks to the former safety's relationship with Denver GM John Elway.
Elway told Eric Branch of the San Francisco Chronicle in a phone interview Wednesday that he likely wouldn't have let Peters out of his contract to go to any other team besides the 49ers.
"Probably not," Elway said. "... He's very good at what he does and I hate losing him. But I also know that it's a great opportunity for him as far as the responsibilities that he was going to gain in San Francisco. But also I know that he's going to be able to go and help John.
"If it was anyone else, I probably wouldn't have. But I know it's a great opportunity for Adam and he'll be a tremendous help to John."
The 37-year-old Peters spent the past eight seasons with the Broncos climbing the ladder from scout, to assistant director of college scouting, to head of the department. Before that, he was a scout with the New England Patriots from 2003-2008.
"That will be a huge plus for John because Adam's been in the league for a long time and knows a lot of different things," Elway told Branch. "How to organize personnel, whether it's on the college side or the pro side. So to have guys that know how to organize that, he'll see how the process is run and after that it's relatively easy. Just to have those people -- to have good people around him who can teach him all those things."
While former TV broadcaster-turned-GM Matt Millen downplayed the relationships built between television analysts and executives, Elway believes that experience will benefit Lynch.
"He's got those relationships already with other GMs in the league to where you can work with them and vice versa," Elway said. "That's one thing where he's way ahead of me when I started. I just didn't have those relationships."
Lynch's relationship with Elway already paid dividends, landing the 49ers a prime scouting eye ahead of a pivotal draft season.

I like how he ranked the Rams above the 49ers and only have 5 draft picks and also needs pieces, while the team with a lot of picks and can start fresh with a new GM is 6th lol!. Salty!

Yeah no kidding especially when we beat them 3 times out of 4 the last 2 years with a downtrodden roster and Tomsula-Kelly as coaches.
Why don't we just call a spade a spade and that he's just salty he didn't get the job.

"Mayhew joined the Lions front office in 2001 and was appointed senior vice president and assistant general manager in 2004 by Matt Millen and served as assistant to Matt Millen through 2008."

Is this a "don't do what we did" hire? LOL!
Edit:
Bad = 4 first round picks uses for WRs in 5 years.
Good = finally found Calvin Johnson

This seems to be the general consensus of what Lions fans think
Reminder: Martin Mayhew drafted Eric Ebron right before four Pro Bowlers went in the next seven picks, including Odell Beckham
