Young and Jones keep in contact with Jed. They have said it. Jones knew about candidates he said 2 weeks ago on knbr. Young said he wasn't part of the committee but he texts Jed

I don't think there was a committee but that is beside the point.
Because they didn't fill you in? Or because Young and Jones talk to Jed and you didn't know?

because there is zero evidence of their being a committee. What makes you think there was a committee and what do you think they did?
Jed said there was a committee. I don't know what they did. They never put the details out just so it would appease fans like you.

Jed never said there was a committee.

Q:
I have two questions and one is along those same lines. You have within a stone's throw some of the greatest players that ever played in the NFL, who are 49ers. Many of them are successful businessmen, Raiders owner Mark Davis reached out to great people from the Raiders' past and got advice from them. Are you doing the same thing?

A:
"Absolutely."

Q:
I mean, former 49ers TE Brent Jones, former 49ers QB Steve Young, former OL Harris Barton, former 49ers S Ronnie Lott. Are you talking to them?

A: "There's another four-time Super Bowl Champion you missed, but yes."

I never expected a committee because he never said he was going to use a committee in the coach and GM search. In case you missed my comment earlier:
I am happy with Shanahan and have no clue as to what kind of a job Lynch will do but admire the boldness of the move and the fact that Jed and Marathe (and Shanahan by extension) put it on the line with the bold hire.

Interesting thing, tho, is Lynch has not been on the sidelines or doing other things...he has been looking at NFL and college from afar...in the broadcast booth or as commentator. So he has been actively engaged in "FOOTBALL" generically, whilst getting an overview of everything going on in NCAA and NFL . It seems like a really good place to be coming from, plus in broadcast, you are exposed to all the important people one would need to know in the GM position.

I was slow on the uptake, but am getting it now, and it is obvious, wiht Lynch's first hire that he is no shrinking violet. Tremendous personality, highly successful and TOUGH DB, with SB ring, who literally has done it all. With the 2-3 yrs of broadcast thrown in, it is seeming to be more and more a terrific hire. And each time i see another hire come in, there is just one less slice of the pie for paraag. Still don't know how he ends up in all this, but it sure would be nice if he did analytics...of anything HC, personnel chief, position coaches might want to know. I would hope he has information to give, but is not involved in any decision making. It is way past time for that to be left to football people...you know, the guys who don't wear green eyeshades. The guys who have actually played this game...or coached it...or been position coaches or scouts or whatever football. Analytics are there to help...not to make decisions. And paraag would do the 49ers some actual good if he stayed out of anything having to do with decisions and just produced information when asked.

Lynch by virtue of broadcast media, is well known, especially to players ...and that includes guys in FA. This yr instead of a bummed out QB dissing his team, or a GM who at best proabably had run his course, back to back HCs that were not drawing cards...instead, we have an extrovert, highly recognized guy, who KNOWS people(in the game), who has proven he is worth his salt, has been successful in essentially all he has done in football to the present, and has already started us off with a bang. There is no way Lynch's presence does NOT help us in FA, at the very least to make guys want to know what is going on here....is this still a clown operated make believe franchise, or have they now got real talent in the F.O?

Looking at the incoming HC, the new GM, head of player personnel...that question no longer need be asked. All that aside, you take one look at both HC/GM, and they look...well...like football is supposed to look. They do not look like Rex Ryan, Romeo Crennel, Rob Ryan, Wade Phillips...they look like football....the kind you want to be part of. And they definitely do not look like the accountant, paraag...and especially ,, thankfully, NOT JED. Face of the franchise has literally changed and damn near overnite. The real face of the team is BOTH Lynch and Kyle. Those two guys just strike me as a lot more "football" than seeing Trent and tomsul over on the sideline. Who could ever forget that? Or trent and chip. Ye gads, those were not the kinds of guys you wanted as the face of your team. Our new guys look like the fresh face of football...the winner's face. And throw in the $80 mil in cap (right now, maybe more), and we WILL be a magnet for FAs. Finallly. #2 pick overall doesn't hurt either. And with picks also at #34, 66, 98, plus another 4th rd, two 5ths....we may not be exactly in the cat bird's seat...but it is darn close.

Up next: DC.

Our HC and GM remind me a bit of snake-eaters....the go get 'em guys. Man i cannot wait for the first day of FA. Then we will see if jed & peeg are truly out of this. If so, this is going to be one glorious yr. Regardless of the W/L, we will finally have the right guys in charge and the watchers...well, on the sidelines. At least, i sure hope that is what has happened. Now if someone talks about maybe trading for garopp, well, maybe it will mean something. Before? Not so much. This is not an endorsement of trading for garopp. It is just a comment on the ongoing rebuilding....actually housecleaning....of those making decisions for the last 17 yrs. Do some analytics on how those cats(Jed and peeg) have done, and there would be no question how we have done under their stewardship. Basically, we just drifted...but backwards. But that has now changed. And great news would be no more meddling by guys who are not football guys.

This is a strong post.

I was initially disappointed, but the more I read and see and "hear" the more this hire is making sense and the more I am liking where this is headed. A few more good hires and this thing could really be legit and potentially something a lot more than I had expected when I thought worst we were going to get was McDonough or Paton.

I am leery. There's been bad decisions and ultimately Jed is responsible. We will see, but there's a part of me that wants to start drinking that coool aid and getting very excited.

For some reason I feel better about the uncertainly of Lynch than I felt about keeping Baalke after the Harbaugh debacle and after the Tomsula disaster and I definitely feel better about Kyle than the past two dud HCs.
Was watching his hits reels on yt. There was a lot of head first and helmet to helmet. Hope he doesn't start hearing voices and go off the rails. There was also some great tackles as well.

there should have plenty of signs or proof in the 8 years of live broadcasting

Great podcast sorry if already posted.

The guy said he talked to several people across NFL front offices and they were unilaterally surprised and annoyed by the Niners.

Great.

I do hope for the best but f**k you Jed.

Just hide them dude....it's brought sanity back to my NinerTalk experience. Some posters express their disagreement with an opinion and you can have a conversation. Then others need to spam their opinion over and over and over and over with the same one-liners and are shocked that there's pushback. No accounting for facts that have been released, still pushing stuff that's like not even remotely true. So this is why I'm so thankful the platform provided help to just mute that stuff. It's helped focus on the real discussions here and I'm so appreciative of you guys spending so much time articulating opinions and contributing to solid football discussions. I'm not alway right and I APPRECIATE when my s**t gets called out - that's how I learn. I don't learn through spam and I'm betting not many of you do either.

So Go Niners!

Can confirm. Hiding the chronic complainers here makes this forum a much more pleasant place. I don't mind people voicing their opinions, but when EVERYTHING you have to say is some negative, chicken little sh*t....that's when you go on the 'hide' list.

Too easy.

Well yeah. Everyone knows Jed is the smartest man in the room...and when he isn't, Paraag is.
