But, I am fine with the John Lynch hire though. He might not have the experience, but I think we may be pleasantly surprised.

I meant to say that I don't think any reputable GM that was out there that we were interviewing this year would want to concede control. Paton, McDonough, Ballard, Gutekunst, etc. I don't know if these guys would want to concede control. If all you're doing is running the draft room, having input in FA, and scouting, this is pretty much aligned with a VP of Player Personnel role rather than a GM with full power with the roster.

There is a reason why GMs get pretty stubborn about controlling those things. They wanted that 53 man roster control and guys like Baalke never conceded that which I'm sure pissed off Harbaugh. They are the guys who want to set the roster and the vision, and then they go hire the head coach to execute their plan.

Didn't Charley Casserly come over fire recently for how he helped with the Jets GM search? Like he was only pushing certain candidates, that he was friends with?

So pretty much Kyle has final say... Lynch is just there for like press conferences and s**t, and Adam Peters/Tom Gamble will be running the draft?

There may be one or two players who Lynch/Peters/Gamble like to keep on the 90-man roster over Shanahan, but it seems unlikely that Shanahan would end up keeping that player, so in effect, yes.

Lynch buys the groceries, Shanahan cooks the meal...

We don't need this hanging over our heads if we are trying change our image as a an organization..especially to attract players.

Lynch would come off as Good Cop, and should help his image even more for potential free agents.

Absolutely correct. It is petty.

Damn it's like dr York charging for bottles of water. Get rid of the deal with aldon. Cripes how cheesy.

But I think Shanahan gives Lynch the shopping list...

Wasnt it Bill Parcells who said if they want you (the coach) to do the cooking then they should let you buy some of the groceries? Or something like that...

Charlie Casserly very critical of John Lynch hiring

Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

Those who actually know new general manager John Lynch have praised the hire by the San Francisco 49ers. Names like FOX insider Jay Glazer, NFL Network analyst Brian Billick, and former 49ers tight end Brent Jones have all supported and shown excitement about the hiring of Lynch. Those who do not know Lynch personally have been critical of the hire because of his lack of front office experience. Lynch was an NFL safety turned analyst for NFL games on FOX. You can add NFL Media's Charlie Casserly to Lynch's list of critics.

Charley Casserly is also part of the NFL Career Advisory Panel. They are the ones who come up with a list of suggestions for GM/HC candidates. I think Casserly makes good points, but a part of him may be upset that the panel's advice was not heeded.

panel members:
Tony Dungy
Charley Casserly
Carl Peterson
Bill Polian
Jimmy Raye Sr.
James Harris
Ernie Accorsi
Dick Daniels
John Madden
I think Ron Wolf was a member in previous years.

Yep. "Out of the box" mean not doing it the 'standard' or 'corporate' way. Casserole butt-hurt.

Yeah, I hated when they came to us dead. Not very useful.

Well that dynamic is no different from the past. It's the boundaries with Paraag that was the issue with Harbaugh and many others (Paraag in on way too many football stuff)...those lines need to be very much clarified to avoid head-butting going forward. Paraag can't be Jed's mole.

Consider this; Lynch was originally brought in as a consultant, to evaluate the problems of the FO/Orginazation - a voice from outside the buble if you will. Then he was asked how to should they fix it. This went down BEFORE the interviews began. This is what Glazer was saying; so in essence, the Barrows article that said Marathe is perceived as an impediment would understandably be the as what Glazer called "the unfiltered assessment" of the job. Remember, they had to convince HIM this was the right opportunity. I will bet you every thing I have that Paraag's meddling was part of the discussion and a requirement of acceptance.

Hence, as Maiocco reported: "I report to Jed".

Great eye and connecting the dots. In fact, IIRC, John even chuckled a second when they asked which of the two he'd report too. I might have to go back and listen. So my guess, is that that certainly was talked about...although in another interview, he couldn't remember his last name.

Found it...around the 18:45 mark - http://www.49erswebzone.com/articles/103145-transcript-john-lynch-discusses-becoming-49ers/
