Lynch should have always been drafting BPA and not need!

Only the stupid GMs draft need and it rarely works.

Him not going after BPA in OBJ was the line for me. If we fail to get Bosa man oh man.

if we draft Quinnen, and our pass rush still sucks because Dee Ford got injured or whatever. I don't care what excuses people have anymore. This dude is as good as gone. How do you ignore the edge position for 3 years and still have a job?

How can you say he ignored the edge position when he traded for Dee Ford?

That's only 1 pro bowl edge rusher. Lynch needs to add 5 or GTFO, signed NT.

Naw..

But it's such an important position the FO should be trying to add to it constantly.

McGlinchey was a waste?

McGlinchey wasn't, neither was Warner nor Pettis. People are grasping at things that aren't there.

I think he is referring to Thomas, Foster, Weatherspoon, CJ Beathard, and Tavarious Moore. All wasted picks in top three rounds.

The jury is still out on Pettis but looks solid. McGLinchy looks promising but pass protection needs work.

Overall the two drafts have been poor. Buckner is still by far the best player on the team and he was a holdover from the last regime.

How was Moore and Weatherspoon wasted picks, it year 2 for Moore, and Year 3 for Witherspoon, who has shown flashes. Moore played well, you can't call players busts after 2 or 3 years unless they've been cut or are out of the NFL.
Non wasted picks or hits, Kittle, Colbert, Jones, Reed, James, Taylor all later round gems or hits. Not every 1st rd or 2nd/3rd rd picks works out, you can't get them all right.
I just hope to come out of the draft having seen clear evidence of a plan, both for this season and the longer term future. Smart business is needed.

It's fairly evident that we have holes to plug and areas to rebuild. A strong indication we are moving in the right direction is a must.

Our secondary is the worst unit on the team.

Witherspoon gets burned regularly.

Moore played well? How so?

Even if Moore and Witherspoon don't apply, the rest of the top picks have been underwhelming. They may not be considered busts yet but are heading that way. They certainly don't look like they are heading to a pro bowl.

Regardless if you are a Lynch apologist or think he is doing a poor job drafting, we can all agree that Lynch needs to absolutely nail this draft.
Whomever ''leaks '' the media info over there at Arizona is doing it right. Niners need to copy that method, whatever it is.

4/12 ''Arz to Draft Bosa.''
4/20 ''Cardinals will pick Murray according to sources.''
4/22 ''Cardinals have no idea who to draft.''
4/25 ''Arizona is said to name Quinnen Williams the number one overall draft pick.''
1st Round picks during Bill Walsh era (1979-1988):

1979 - None
1980 - Earl Cooper, Jim Stuckey
1981 - Ronnie Lott
1982 - None
1983 - None
1984 - Todd Shell
1985 - Jerry Rice
1986 - None
1987 - Harris Barton, Terrence Flagler
1988 - None

7 1st rounders in 10 years. 2 HOFs (Lott, Rice), 1 10-year starter (Barton), 2 role players for ~5 years (Cooper, Stuckey), 1 player with one mediocre sophomore season before busting (Shell), and 1 outright bust (Flagler).

Hitting on 1st round picks is best, but not the only way to build winners.

Also, TIL Jesse Sapolu was an 11th round pick.

He needs to do well, that's his job. But "absolutely nail" is more a fan expectation than a reasonable expectation for any GM in a given draft.
Brieda, Kittle , Goodwin.

ALL Lynch has to do is either draft Bosa or Willams or trade down for a second overall pick and he's good.

If he screws that up , then well, ...bahh.

Well, assuming things go well, JL will be very close to restocking the entire shootin' match. A lot rides on what Az does but whether we get Bosa who is a DE or draft Allen who can play DE ,or drafts Q, who will Then require a 2nd tier DE be drafted probably in rd 2, we will have taken care of passrush. Next is OG/S depending on BPA. Then get the other with next pick. After that a CB, an OG and OT for the pipeline, and his job of a total rebuild will just about be complete.

In UDFA, AAF, kyle can find another WR

What amazes me is that JL detractors fail to Recognize that he has virtually rebuilt an entire team, like 43 different players. Why is that?

Granted, he has to nail this draft...but the first 3 or 4 players are going to be pretty straight forward. The only thing he can't do is let one of the 3 blue chippers somehow evade us. That is the only caveat.

Agreed, but gotta keep getting even better players at all positions going forward, too.
