I hope he's equipped with some sharp personnel people around him.

"During his 15 seasons as an NFL player, John epitomized what is so special about the game of football," York said Monday in a statement. "A world-class competitor, his love and respect for the sport are unmatched, and you would be hard-pressed to find anyone in league circles who does not have great respect for his work ethic and passion. Having already helped lead a team to a Super Bowl title as a player, John is equipped with tremendous insight into what it takes to create a culture that breeds sustained success.

"Having spent the last eight seasons as an analyst with FOX, he has honed his skills as a talented communicator while also developing valuable relationships around the league and a vast knowledge of the NFL that will be beneficial to our team. As we learned more and more about John, it became apparent that he was not only one of the best to ever play this game but also a Hall of Fame caliber man, one who people are compelled to follow."

just let it take it's course. we are in such a better place now that we have been in the last 2 years.

Did you just repeat a quote from last year?

but what I'm worried about his the people John chooses to advice him. If we are bringing in Dominik or other people who haven't sniffed NFL Job in a while, then it's basically we are hiring Dominick AS THE GM.

would yall have wanted Dominik as GM a couple of weeks ago? if his name was up there?

Also, like others have said, I DEFINITELY believe that the 9ers FO has hired shills to post on this forum, and social media (Twitter) The stuff I've read is crazy. Beyond "Faithful".

Afrikan... nailed it.

For our sake, if we get Dominik, I hope we land Hickey as well. I'd prefer Hickey based on his recent track record, but if we can't get him without Dominik, fine.

I think Hickey would be best suited to handle the college scouting with Dominik as Head of Player Personnel. I'd love to have both of them. Hickey did make some very nice picks as GM of Miami.

Why has Dominik out of the league? If he couldn't get a GM job again....why not an personnel position, like he might get with us?

This just seems like the Tomsula hiring.... give him the keys and settle for which ever coaches are willing to work with him.

Seems like we are settling for Dominik.

edit- I don't hate Dominik, I'm just still in shock that we hired JOHN Lynch as GM.

While I think John Lynch will be way better than Matt Millen, be careful w/ Elway comp. Elway cut his teeth in Arena League, had experience

Arena League, Wow! What an experience

So i guess all college coaches are coming with zero experience because its not the NFL.

I guess Tomsula was a great candidate as a HC cause he was one in the European league....I guess Jon Bon Jovi can be a GM cause he was owner of the Philadelphia Soul as well

We didn't have any other option, so I gues it is what it is.

exactly! and that Cable wasn't hired

And that Baalke was fired.

... so basically it sounds like he'll be the boss but he'll hire people to do his job. I mean correct me if I'm wrong ... with Elway in Denver he brought in a bunch of high priced vets (good ones though) including Manning, to get to the SB. Makes you wonder if thats what Lynch/Shanny will end up doing. Bring in more vets to supplement the draftees. Will Lynch/Shanahan even attract players to come to SF?

What you've outlined, is a legitimate concern !!!
However, and ponder this if you will. Maybe (just maybe) Kyle, is more savvy in areas beyond his X's & O's
acumen, than he's given credit for. The guy did grow up around football, and I'd imagine that during Mikes
tenure in Denver, Kyle, saw and was able to absorb some of the inner working of how things run. I'm sure
he has a fairly clear vision of how a successful team works.

I personally believe Lynch will do well, as long as he adheres to the 'Dirty Harry School of Thought', being:

and leans on his hires, and others he trusts, regarding things he may not be 100% on. I also feel they'll
have less of a problem convincing FA's to join the 49ers this off-season, than many on this board believe.
Throw in a potential SB victory, or a very strong showing in that game, and anything is possible.

Anyway, I've tired of the state of mind I've been in these last 2 seasons ... being optimistic about the teams
future moving forward, feels much better.

Elway was owner/GM & on the AFL's executive committee. Tad different the being a part owner of a team.

80% of what York says is just blabber, but from the other 20%, it's pretty clear that most people in this thread are correct. Lynch is primarily set up to be a leader, communicator and a "respectful image" for us. Not so much a talent evaluator.

sometimes guys are better scouts then GMs....sometimes some coaches are better coordinators then head coaches

TV $$$$>>>>>>>>Being a regular front office executive

Riddick and Dominik earn more money working for ESPN than they would being a Director of Pro Personnel somewhere.
