Exactly. This is a far cry from Matt Millen in my opinion.

How so? When Millen was hired he had Bill Tobin as Director of Player Personnel, he was the GM of Chicago and Indy (with the Colts he drafted Faulk and Harrison). So it wasn't like he was not surrounded by guys with experience.

Lynch will not have this immense authority that Millen had. Lynch will have Paraag who is strong with negotiations and salary cap, Gamble and/or Dominak leading player personnel, and perhaps others. It may or may not work out but I have more confidence in Lynch becoming like Elway than I do him being another Millen.

So Paraag will be making personnel decisions? I know Marathe is running the show but I am really hoping he stays out of the decision making now that he has his people in place.

No. He will be doing what he does best with contract negotations and salary cao. I dont see him with any personnel decisions.

What will Brian Hampton be doing?

BRIAN
HAMPTON

Director Of Football Administration And Analytics
In his current role, Hampton is responsible for contract negotiations, strategic planning and management of the club's player compensation budget and salary cap.

Marathe is the top dog in Football Operations, he hired Shanahan and Lynch.

Oh lord heath evens just said...

#Lynch is better equipped to do what matters most at GM than any other GM in the league except #OzzieNewsome w/ the @Ravens.

what's joan in payroll?

Totally off subject but not sure if you seen my post 50 pages back but it was Mark Dominik on NFL Insider that stated Shanahan wanted Garoppolo in the 2014 draft.
All I know is that let's hope Lynch is also friends with Mike Shannahan and uses him as somebody to lean on.

It would be a mistake in my opinion but again i have a high opinion of my opinion

Millen had all the power and final say. It doesn't look that way for Lynch.

He is the trigger man. But yes, he'll have a small village to help him, so it seems.

Who said he is the trigger man? It is Shanahan by all accounts

Reported somewhere in these 144 pages...saw it yesterday. I mean, that is what a GM is hired to do no matter how much collaboration there is. There still has to be a trigger man (as Nolan noted).
By all indications so far Shanahan is the trigger man. Nobody has reported the Lynch has final say.

If I misread/misinterpreted it from yesterday, my apologies. But it will certainly be asked about at the presser so it will be interesting to see who is the trigger man esp. with reports that Kyle did not pitch for control over the 53.

Just heard the Kevin Burkhardt interview, holy smokes am I impressed or am I impressed on what he had to say about John Lynch? You can hear the dude wasn't just paying lip service just because they worked together. He actually talked about specific things that impressed him when working with Lynch.

I don't doubt it will be a steep learning curve like what Matt Millen said, but I like Lynch, he is a straight up guy, as such I am going to stay positive and keep an open mind.

KNBR?

No, 49ers.com, bro.

Yes, just like how every team drafts a rookie QB. Do you know which teams that have the most success? The ones that surround that rookie QB with experience. We surrounded Shannahan with someone who probably knows less than him about being a GM.

My point is that we heavily lowered the odds of success which seems to be a York office tradition.

I don't get it, a lot of folks here said if we hire someone unproven or Gamble, then it will be obvious that Marathe has his hands in more things football than just salary cap. And now this is trying to be spun in a positive direction.

Look, I know we all want to be hopefull and love the 49ers but the dots keep connecting about our secret undercover GM but everyone wants to look the other way.

Its already been reported that Lynch was hand picked by Shanahan. He chose Lynch, he wasn't stuck with him.

Somebody posted here last night something else positive he said. I'm not sure if this a good thing or a bad thing.

I have a feeling he did. If he didn't I feel Paton would be the GM right now.

100% this. Not 1 fan would have been OK with this move months ago. Yet, here we are, trying to rationalize hiring a man who has even less credentials than our former failed GM and overseeing people (like Gamble) who actual ARE more qualified.

Best case scenario is he grows quickly into this role over the years and surrounds himself with outstanding people. Feels like I'm talking about Tomsula here. LOL

Rose-colored glasses can be wonderful. This statement may help take some fans' glasses off:

Kyle Shannahan is more qualified to be a GM than John Lynch is.
