Winning as a player and as a executive are completely different. Mike Singletary was a "winner" how did did that work out for SF?
I think that does help in the culture-building department. IMO Sing did help in that regard, but his limited organizational ability overshadowed it.
The current roster has a college vibe to it, so hopefully Lynch can start finding out who the pros are.
If he can. Being a good pro doesn't make you a good talent elevator.

j/k
Honestly, that speaks more to Elway and his ability to use resources to help him scout for key positions. Can Lynch do the same thing?
So at least you have someone in place that can tell Paraag to piss off if he starts to meddle. Former players I find don't really have filters for that kind of thing when non-football people are trying to exert influence. We'll see who he hires in the personnel department. One small thing he's done is keep Gamble, for now, so all the scouting won't be blown up.
Yeah right. Nobody is telling Paraag to piss off...that's the equivalent of telling Jed to stay out of a men's meeting. John Lynch will NOT be pissing his owners off but he's got the personality where his football side may end up going right down that road at some point (could become toxic quickly). For instance, at some point, Paraag will be setting the free agency spending table for John Lynch. It's going to be very interesting to see how that goes esp. once John partners up with Kyle. As to Gamble, had we hired Paton yesterday, Gamble would be gone today. But since Lynch is not qualified to run a scouting department and shape it to Kyle's WCO and ideal players, he's forced to stick with Gamble...at least in the interim...for our most IMPORTANT DRAFT to date.
Look where disagreeing with Paraag and Jed got Harbaugh.
Paraag Marathe is in charge of football operations. Hopefully there will be no disagreeing.

Given the recent issues with this organization I'm not sure which one of us is furthest from the truth.
Dynasty to Disaster is just a York away
This whole process is Jed swinging the pendulum too far the other way. Now he obsessed with starting the BFF Club, entrance only for those with no experience.
The Colts, with an idiot owner, came in late, found the best talent in Ballard and are joining him with Pagano. Sounds so simple when Jed isn't involved.
Even Peter King made fun of our process and that guy is a p***y.
Does Jed think him and Paraag have been successful? They have a connection. Jed also had a connection with Baalke AND Tomsula AND Singletary.
How is this guy still thinking a connection is the primary variable to success when his keep failing? Only time we won was when there was no connection.

It was the bachelor, NFL style. What you'll hear now from the NFL talking heads, whose job is to promote the NFL brand, rationalizing the hire as best they can.

Hiring dominik would be a very good move
Agree, Lynch needs a right hand man.

By pro, I mean guys who live football and work to get better. But, I agree with the talent side. Even if he leans on Dominik/Gamble/whoever, he still needs to make the call on getting a player.

In the eighties there were Niner fans that used to complain that we didn't win by enough points sometimes. They thought that, considering the level of competition, we should have trounced certain teams, when the game ended up being close.
For the last two years, there have been many fans posting that this team needed football people at the top of the management structure and that TB had to go. Now TB is gone, the team is rumored to be pursuing experienced management people to populate the upper level management, and the complaints are rolling in.
It never ends with our fans, the forty whiner fans...

So when he criticizes the team he is speaking truth to power but when he compliments them its because he's a shill? Got it.

Relax people, can't believe this thread is already 139 pages long.
Nobody knows how this will turn out. GM position is more luck than skill imo. There isn't a GM in this sport who does his own scouting. They all rely on the people in the front office, the scouts, coaches, etc...
Lynch is a smart guy who knows how this game works. We'll have people in place to help him out. A coach who knows offense would work well with a GM who knows defense.
I think Lynch can be a lot closer to Elway than Matt Millen...but if we draft Mike Williams at #2 get those torches ready.
But seriously everyone starts somewhere and any one of us can luck into doing a pretty good job as a GM if we had the right people telling us their opinions. I think Kyle Shanahan as HC was already a risky move yet most people are fine with a first time HC(very different than coordinator). May as well take a shot and hope it works out. Lynch has a 2-3 year window to learn the ropes and drafting top 5 is much easier than mid-late first. Most of us could do it and have decent results.
Sit back and hope for the best. i don't see a middle ground with this duo. I think they either do a great job of turning this team around(not any time soon) or they crash and burn.

If you compared their IQs, I'd bet Lynch would outperform Millen...just a hunch

Is there any sort of press conference scheduled?
