this is the truth and the pass protection broke down. goes back to them ignoring the wide outs and thinking garcon will be fine. taylors back will be ok,. totally oblivious to the fact that the rest of the nfl said. hey we jam these guys. they can not get open and then jimmy is easy pickings.

Are you sure? I haven't been following the Falcons recently, but they moved De'Vondre Campbell to SAM at the end of last year. He was there at the start of the year. He plays SAM in base and Mike in nickel.

I know he played outside linebacker all of last season, but I'm not sure about this season (Yahoo! Sports lists him as a LB currently).

I'm pretty sure he's playin edge and just not performing. Dan Quinn said at the end of last year that he was moving Beasley to edge full time for this year. That's why they moved Campbell.

this is exactly right.. fine. we were told its a three or four or WHATEVER year rebuild,,. but to me.. that totally changed or should have changed when they got a franchise qb,. that time table should have automatically been bumped up and that means spending your money to protect your qb and enhance the weapons. fine they over paid but got jet. but with the wide outs. i think they did not do as much there along with a second tight end.. everything changed or should have changed when they got jimmy. the ,,. this is a long process does not apply

We all knew it was going to be a rebuild and pretty much accepted that. What is so frustrating though is I see little if no improvement in the play on the field. Are they better now than where they were last year at the last part of the season when they won 5 games in a row? No I do not think so. The whole purpose of rebuilding is to make progress and showing it in their play. The only two that I see doing that are Kittle and Breida the rest meh..

HA! That makes zero sense. he should've ran out of bounds and regardless, it was a pretty fluke injury.

They traded a 2nd and a 3rd to grab Pettis. That's a pretty big move there. They cashed out for McKinnon for his pass game work. Unfortunately they've both been injured all year. As have Goodwin and Taylor. Add in Garcon had a major drop in ability - which doesn't usually happen to a guy who's game isn't predicated on speed - and it's a pretty screwed up situation.

They also completely rebuilt our O-line in two years and outside of getting dominated by Donald.. they've been great all year.

Yeah. I'm starting to really get down on the defensive coaching. For Foster, Solomon, Akhello, Colbert, Tartt and even Buckner to take such a step back or plateau this year - it's hard not to blame the coaching / scheme. The guys above have the talent to do damage at varying levels of ability (solid starter to all-pro abilities on that list) and aren't showing it this year.

It's still early.. let's see what happens. Hopefully they can get in to a groove following these next 3 games against garbage teams.

Unnecessarily trading Trent Brown forced FO to reach draft McGlinchey in first round while not improving the OL significantly and still leaving a hole when Staley retires. Brown's starter value amounted to only moving up 48 slots from 143 (fifth round, which the Niners also traded) to 95 (3rd round). The FO traded Brown because he wasn't a scheme fit, was weak at run blocking, and/or wasn't a "Monday morning" type player. Given the overall weakness of the OL the prior season, these "reasons" don't justify the trading of Brown. It seemed more to doing with ShanaLynch's philosophy of purging players acquired by previous admins according to their untested theory of rebuilding.

That left only Tomlinson, Kilgore and Fusco to worry about. For these three weak players, they let the strongest (Kilgore) go, who might have been a better backup than they have now. They extended Tomlinson on the hope that he'd improve. Fusco they tried to replace with two injured players, J. Cooper and J. Garnett. Cooper didn't make the team. Garnett didn't make the team the previous year (excused by a minor injury) and is now healthy and inactive. The third option was Person, a journeyman, below average player. ShanaLynch didn't insure that Jimmy G. would be protected by these hoping against hope transactions.

Just a suggestion:
One scenario Shanahan might have tried is keeping Trent Brown, play him at LT this season, draft McGlinchey (perhaps trade down for him), and move Staley to left guard or right guard.

My only agreement with you is that they should have gotten SO MUCH more for Trent Brown. I expected at least a first round pick.

On the other side.. they rebuilt our O-line to be absolute studs. They've proved it this year outside of Aaron Donald kicking our ass.

Staley, Laken Tomlinson, Person and McGlinchey have been playing reaaaaaaaally freaken well. McGlinch has all-pro potential and is already playing at a pro-bowl level. Richburg was an All-Pro and while he is still playing more than solid in the run-game.. he needs to step up in the pass game. Still, i'd take him over Kilgore any day.

To completely rebuild this o-line to play this well in two years is pretty impressive.

We all should have realized there would be a learning curve for Shanny and Lynch. There will be hits and misses. The important things is that they retain the winners and don't hang on too long to the misses. I like the way Shanny answers questions in depth and doesn't shy away from admitting mistakes. He doesn't have all the answers but he admits it. We obviously need better players at key spots but more than anything we need continuity. You can't keep changing coaches every year or two and expect success. In another 2 years we should know if these guys are on the right track. Look at how many teams have been searching forever. The Browns, Bears and Rams have all been down for years but all the high picks are starting to pay off for them. Even the Browns are improved this year. Like it or not we are the Browns now. We may struggle for a couple more years before we make the big jump. It's hard to be patient for a team that has won 5 Super Bowls but the last one was 23 years ago. I'm at the point now where I don't expect playoffs; I just want good solid play.
