Alex Smith is pretty good and he couldn't.

I believe Alex Smith was the best rated quarterback last year and had the highest percentage of Deep Throws and was the best rated quarterback on those as well. Deep air yards also.

So again these players make any quarterback look much much better than they are. I'm still glad we have Jimmy he is more accurate and better at his progressions and reads. he was missing Th Rose all over the place including last week as well. Time will tell but I am happy We have Jimmy G spot

Well there's no arguing injuries derailed the season and especially the offense. Which is why I'm more skeptical of the defense and the coaches ability, but it's compounding so it's not fair to just blame anyone too much imo.

Pretend you are any of the other 31 teams and take away their starting QB and RB, tell me how they would fare. Imo their expectations would be severely lowered just as ours has.

That being said we all expect to see pass rush finally addressed and other logical upgrades/additions this offseason. If not then we will all be all over them.

Bingo. Look at Green Bay last year and even Dallas a few years back when Tony Romo got injured. They got a top five pick and so are we. Enough with this doom and gloom crap. The injuries are the key but there is a glaring weakness in the pass rush and we need another corner. The line play on offense is improving but we could use a free agent guard if there is a great one available

Not with Kelce, Hill, and Hunt. I'm fairly certain I could throw for 300.

Haha...me too!

This is sad.

Mahoney is a great and would have been much better draft pick than Thomas and a much better QB than Beathard.
Ah, yes. The old hindsight argument. If everybody knew how good Brady would become he wouldn't have lasted until the 6th round, which means every team in the league passed on him at least 5 times. If everybody knew how good Joe was going to be he wouldn't have lasted until the 3rd round. Mahomes (at least get his name right) wasn't even the top rated QB in his draft. If anybody knew how fast he was going to come out of the gate don't you think the Bears would have taken him since they were specifically in the market for a QB? Then the 3rd pick might still have been Thomas. Shanahan and Lynch had a plan in mind, get Hoyer, who had his best year under Shanahan to hold down the fort, then go hard after Cousins the following year, so they probably didn't see QB as their biggest immediate need. Beathard was drafted as a guy to be developed, not one they expected to start that year. The team had one of the worst run defense in the league the previous year and clearly felt that was something they needed to address.

Like every other business in the world, I suspect a lot of what goes on in the draft is about how a player is perceived. Lynch knew Thomas personally, knew he had the type of character that he wanted in the locker room, and thought he was a pretty good football player on top of that so he drafted him. It may be that he won't turn into the player that Lynch envisioned but that can probably said about every GM in every draft that has ever been held. There is almost always going to be someone who is better than the guy you picked in a particular round, that's just how things work. This whole, "oh, we should have drafted Mahomes", argument is just, silly. Mahomes has gotten off to a great start and could go on to have a great career, or he could flame out like a lot of other QB's who everyone thought was going to be the "next great thing". Someone above mentioned Prescott, and Watson above, we also had a guy on this team a few years ago who some people thought was going to be great. How did that turn out. Not so well as I recall. Personally I think Mahomes could turn out to be pretty good. Unlike the poster above who mentioned that Mahomes has a bit of sandlot in him, I don't see that in him as much as I saw it in Kaepernick. After a play breaks down Mahomes is still always looking to throw the ball downfield and has just a ridiculous arm, and he doesn't take off and run at the first sign of trouble. Like Wilson in Seattle he extends the play as long as he can looking to throw and then will take off if nothing else is available. KC got a pretty dynamic player. Good for them, hopefully he and Jimmy G. can face off in a Super Bowl in a few years. Go Niners!!

Yup, you nailed it.....we clearly need ER and another corner, and I'm hoping that is our #1 and #2 picks in the next draft.
Lynch's bungles have far outweighed his successes as GM thus far. The best thing he has going is his reputation and relationships around the league. If it weren't for that, I'd be ready to find a replacement. We better turn the corner next year.
On a side note, I'm watching NFLN right now and it's a panel with Deion Sanders, LaDainian Tomlinson and Shannon Sharpe and I can't understand a WORD these guys are talking about. The poor female host says, "Well I don't even know what YOU'RE talking about half the time. Where are these phrases coming from?"

And I hope we get another pass rusher in free agency for the amount of heat and constant questions our front office is getting about a pass rusher I'm pretty sure we are going to double down even if they don't want to. I know front offices usually don't listen to the media and all that other stuff however this is one situation where it's part media and part knowing this is a desperate need for the team. So with our first pick in the draft we get an edge rusher and in free agency we get an edge rusher I think after we improve there as long as we have a good corner which I thought could've been Witherspoon and a guard to improve the line play I think we are pretty set everywhere. We do need a dynamic wide receiver so it would be cool if we offered something for Cooper if he's even being offered
JL has to be wishing the alumni would shut up. LOL.

Whenever there's a rumour there will be an interviewer looking for an alumni to comment. Probably pretty standard for every GM these days.

He's good no doubt just saying they got talent.

He is good but he just isn't better than you.

You know is funny, you call it "misery" when in fact people are interested in what has gone wrong whereby the team could make the respective corrections to get us out of this hole. I have said it before, if you want to be a successful team, you need to be able to self-critique. Come on, the 9ers are one of the worst teams in the league right now, we need to own up to it.

i just think in some arenas. its simply called denial. and its doubled down on when the injury excuse is used. this team was never a 9 or 10 win team before the injuries. sorry but i am not going to set here with some glazed smile on my face as we continue to make the same mistakes over and over again no matter who the players are and say.... oh its all positive. brick by brick.. this team had issues at the end of last year that were never addressed or thinly addressed in free agency and draft.
I don't want to tank.

But I really really want Little Nick Bosa.

I want to tank.
Lynch bringing in Tom Savage? He's making moves!
