Any idea who is in charge of player personnel and free agency?

Rumors are they are bringing in Dominik and maybe even Hickey and also keeping Gamble. Could be the deepest FO we have had in a while.

According to PFT's Mike Florio, "buzz is building" toward the 49ers hiring ex-Bucs GM Mark Dominik to be new GM John Lynch's right-hand man.

Yeah hickey is also being looked at I guess

who's hickey ?
If we couls get both Dominik and Hickey that would be awesome!
Get Dominik as player personnel and Mike Shannhan as senior advisor and let the ship start rolling.

He doesn't come with the predetermined knowledge to judge the picks/movement while its happening. So he gets a 3 year trial period?

He gets through the draft to show he is worth keeping, same with the scouts and other front office staff.

This is not a new thing or something exclusive to the 49ers. It is common practice when hiring a new GM.

Normal practice is having a new GM that actually knows whats going on.

You have one guy fighting for Watson and another fighting for Trubisky, what basis is Lynch picking one over the other? Now expand that to 7 rounds and UDFA's.

Ex Dolphins GM.. Him and Dominik were scouting together at the senior bowel and I belive Breer tweeted that they can both come to SF as a package.

paton, mcdoungh, the greenbay boys, ballard, the seattle dudes, etc... the list goes on and on.

outside of the greenbay guys, we didnt lose much, i dont see many rings in that bunch. the seattle guys have one but they were also linked to tom f**king cable. lets see what Lynch can do, at the end of the day, atleast hes a "football guy" something that our front office has desperately needed and by all accounts it looks liek theyll be surrounding him with top scouts and gm types like dominik, gamble and hickey. im excited about it, Shanny is gonna be running the show anyway, you dont think Kyle is going to get final say over whatever offensive weapons we draft? cmon now

So these two men had an interview early January and then agreed to WAIT 2-3 weeks to meet with Niner brass and Shanahan this weekend but yet they weren't interested or didn't want the job? I call B***$#!T. If you don't want or are not interested you tell them thanks but no thanks early in the process as others did.

Dominik and Hickey watched practices together in Mobile last week. Could be groundwork for those two -- who are close -- to reunite in SF.

So this is me not understanding what goes on behind the scenes for scouts/etc. I don't expect anyone here to know, but I take it Gamble will be evaluated on how he deployed his scouts? How colorful his charts and spreadsheets are? What his process is from organizing scouting reports to the big board?

Its the same process as it would have been for any GM that they might have hired. Gamble will be evaluated on everything, on how he fits with the overall philosophy, the quality of his scouting reports, his past track record, how hard he works, how well he relates to the other front office staff and coaching staff.....etc.

After a few months working with the guy I'm sure Lynch will have a better idea of what sort of caliber executive he is and whether or not he wants him to remain on the staff. The scouts will be evaluated the same way and usually with a new GM you will get a few new scouts at minimum, hired after the draft.

Watch Indy in May. I bet you Ballard dumps a bunch of scouts and brings in new scouts and some new executives.
