Who were the dominant guards that Shanahan had in Atlanta? Washington? Houston? Those are the types of moves I expect to see in the future. Trading for veterans who might be undervalued in exchange for 5th, 6th, 7th rounders. Drafting guys in the middle rounds. I don't ever expect them to drop huge free agent money or an early pick on one though. They've made it clear that they prioritize tackle and center far more so than guard.

It all depends on the severity of the injury. Aldon Smith played months with a torn labrum. Alshon Jeffery played a long time with a rotator cuff. In general, the rotator cuff injury is a lot more severe in comparison when it comes to an offensive or defensive lineman.

yeah its obviously a problem if your starting right guard and his backup go down with injuries in the same game, can't really plan for that

I could not agree more NC. Aside from all the monster pass rushing defensive tackles in today's NFL were seeing the other draw back in the red zone and short yardage situations. I dont expect Shanahan to change his philosophy regarding offensive guards but I DO expect him through scheme to fix these red zone issues and figure out how he's going to block guys like Donald, Bennett, Brockers, Nkemdiche and Jones with the merry band of midgets or its gonna be a long season!! The NFC west is overflowing with dominant defense line talent and it would be nice not to have our young offensive tackle being overwhelmed on every passing down because these guards are getting blown up for the sake of being able to block outside zone. Not sure Shanahan's OG philosophy includes losing his top two options at RG.

I agree and understand the circumstances but his 'starting' G's aren't average either. The injuries only highlighted the lack of resources used there (i.e. 0 draft picks in 2 years).

He can take Bournes spot IMO. I like that they're at least looking into it. I'm sure Shanahan had a say in this having worked with him before.

How old is Garçon? How healthy is Goodwin? I'm pretty sure if we landed Gordon, they would find a place for him. Ultimately, it depends on the price. If he comes cheap, and shows more potential than any of the other wide receivers, he would see the field. A team that goes limp in the red zone would be wise to look into acquiring offensive weapons.

lol. of all the things to worry about. what middle tier untested wide outs spot josh would take is not one of them
