I'm still upset about this. Two freaking years in a row at a 0% chance to gain momentum.

Maybe AZ & SEA aren't as good this year? No Romo for DAL...
Young tore his rotator cuff week 5 against the Colts. He returned week 13 against the Rams. Oddly enough Grbac's first start was against the Rams (their first year in St. Louis) and they were supposed to kill us. We rolled them, lost to the Saints and Panthers in SF, and then when everyone wrote us off...Grbac led us into Dallas and Miami and won both of those games. Young came back against the Rams and won in SF.

1995 was...they were the first expansion team to beat a defending super bowl champ (Niners)

Niners FB William Floyd was lost for the season that game as well I think

Edit: nvm he was injured the week before vs the Saints, but I think it shell shocked the Niners enough they lost the next home game to the panthers. both young and grbac got hurt too I seem to recall, so Niners were down to their 3rd string QB

Yes, we're going to lose because of the short week and travel. Has nothing to do with our s**tty offense.

Well that and the fact that they are a great team who played in the Super Bowl last year. There is a tiny chance we win but there is a lot stacked against us.
Don't forget, they pretty much had DEN beat. Missed game winning FG in DEN. Not an easy place to win.

I'm hoping we win. Make a statement...shock waves...all that. Any type of win will illicit the same response from me.

If not, then at least keep things respectable with a competitive game we lose near the end.

...if not that, then a non-blowout loss with brief moments of excellence on both sides of the ball.

...if not that, then a blowout loss where we score some points, perform with brief moments of lucidity in an otherwise incoherent effort.

And finally, if non of these are in our cards, then I guess we're going to get our asses handed to us. We'll appear anemic and benign...

These are my scenarios, in order, from most exhilarating to the lowest depths fandom has to offer.

In all scenarios: NO CATASTROPHIC INJURIES PLEASE

And Walls was a routine Niner Killer. He felt the team should have done more to keep him.

we would've, if he didn't happen to have a knack for dropping TDs and easy passes

Has anyone else seen or read what this guy Kevin Jones from KNBR writes about the team? He's only been on the scene a couple months. Some of it kind of interesting but lame at the same time. He's got this whole story dedicated to the fact the Niners were starting their practice today listening to a song "North Carolina" by Petey Pablo and saying the team is trying to send a subtle message to the Panthers about how they're not scared to play such a formidable opponent. IDK what I've seen him write so far comes off kinda douchey and straight up stupid. Yeah, it's possible the players just like the song and thought something more like "hey we're playing the panthers so this is a cool song to get hyped out" type thing. Probably nothing really deep or profound like he was trying to spin it.

I just read that article, it could be accurate. Chip will look for any angle to find a win. It's science. I was more impressed with the comments, every person was talking about how we are gonna pull off the upset.

Go 9ers!!!

http://www.knbr.com/2016/09/14/pair-of-49ers-first-round-picks-headed-in-opposite-directions/

Here's another article by Jones. Yep this confirms he's a journalistically irresponsible douchebag. No clown, they're actually headed in the same direction. One is just farther along than the other and he was #7 pick. Big difference between that and someone picked 28th. This guy is the new d**khead reporter/columnist now surpassing KKC (Kawakami/Killion/Cohn).

Merton Hanks on Mushin Muhammad, Remember this game, Sept. 96, 23-7 loss. Panthers had our number in 96.

Is that the yr they came into the league?

Came in 95, beat us at Candlestick (then known as 3Com Park) 10-7 I think was the score in November 95. Brutal

Mushin Muhammad and Wesley Walls (former Niner played behind Brent Jones for years but left).

Wesley Walls was a great player, but we were so deep he couldn't get off the bench! Ah, the good old days! But that was then, this is now, lets just go play hard-nosed football, and come away with a win, and shock the world!

Mccaffrey was poached by mike shanahan...he's the only one I regret the Niners lost

Waters followed the $$$, but he was sorely missed
