QB could have been fixed this past offseason, but, as usual, the front office waited till the 6th round to take Driskel. Now, the fan base will have to wait until next year to see if Baalke or whomever is the GM has the balls to take one of these prospects early in the draft:
Watson
C. Kelly
B, Mayfield
B. Kayla
L. Falk

How would it have been fixed? Only rook QB who has looked passable is Dak Prescott. We'll see how he does week 1 when the bullets fly.

If I was Baalke I would be working the phones trying to pry someone's backup qb from them. Either Glennon in TB or Savage in Houston, seminar in Denver if he's not named starter! Heck I'm for picking up whichever qb they cut! And it's time to invest some high draft capital in WRs. Only one of our wrs could crack the Texans too 5 wrs. I'm at the point if our qbs are going to be this bad I would start Driskell for 16 games to at least give us some hope!
I'm ok with our QB situation. Chip Kelly has gotten more out of less. I think T.Smith is a proven commodity in this league. My concern are the rest of the WR's who all look like 3rd team camp fodder. It doesn't matter how good Smith is if the guys playing with him can be taken out of the game with single coverage. That said the Oline is the big bright hope for me with this Offense, if they play up to their potential then there is no way this team doesn't improve on last year and help the Defense win some games.

I am not saying he is bad, just that he isn't really what we need right now in a top receiver.
You always can work with a guy that is a true deep threat. I do agree that some other receiver will have to step up alongside him. Hopefully Patton can be that guy because it would simplify things a lot if he can be that intermediate receiver. Then you have Kerley or Ellington in the slot, as well as McDonald, Hyde in the backfield and if the OL holds up, the QB should have some options, especially with Kelly running the offense.
Not true Torrey smith had what 11 tds 2 years ago on the Ravens without another good wr. He kicks ass we just need a qb that is solid and inconsistent like flacco and a good OL. I think we have both now.

How could it have been fixed this year? Because Dak Prescott had a good preseason?
The odds of finding a QB get worse the further you move beyond the 1st round. They fall off a cliff starting in Round 3. I liked Goff a lot but for what the Rams gave up for him, it wasnt worth it.
They instead built up their OL and DL. Now going into next draft they look to be more of a complete team and more able to support a young QB.

Agree LVJay.
I also think we'll win enough games that will put us out of contention for a franchise QB in the draft.
Damned if we do and damned if we don't!

Let's be honest. For those who thought that Dak would look this good early on is lying! NO ONE saw this coming. Even I, a certified Baalke hater, cannot bash him for not selecting him.

I was one of his top supporters, I followed him closely in college and I thought he would need a few years to develop. I still think he'll hit some rough patches as a rookie but he wound up in a good situation with a top OL and WR. It'll be interesting to see how he holds up.

No game film on Dak. No scheming for Dak. He is playing with a great o-line, and amazing WR/TE, and Zeke looks to be legit. I think Dak will have a fantastic few games but will also have some games where he gets shell shocked.

I'm okay with Gabbert. I'm hanging my hat on his almost 300 YD game vs. the Seahawks.

Not even the Cowboys saw it coming which is why they were in search for a veteran backup once their other backup got hurt

17 years and counting.
Sure Garcia and Smith weren't terrible, but the "Curse of Young" is starting to sound like a real thing as we've yet to find a suitable replacement for him.
We need a talent evaluator who respects the QB position, can identify actual talent at that position, and then convince Baalke to pick the right players in the draft.
I don't think we've had that type of guy since Walsh. If that happens, hopefully Kelly or the current QB coach can develop such players.
As for the current talent, except for Driskell they are a known quantity. Gabbert is good enough to be a temporary placeholder. Kap is looking for a second career.
The jury is still out on Driskell, I have hopes he can amount to something for the 49ers, but the odds and history suggests he won't.
Even if he does turn out to be good, it won't hurt to continue compiling promising QBs regardless.
Until then QB Hell sounds like an apt description for the current location of the 49ers in 2016.

I don't think it is QB Hell. I think it has been Offensive Coordinator Hell.
Let's see what Kelly can get out of this offense before we begin to think the offense will suck by default of Gabbert starting. There's teams in worse situations than us but the talking heads don't really talk about that.

Im not that concerned. Gabbert is a decent game amanging no mistakes type qb. Its not gonna win us a SB but it'll get us through the season and we shouldnt get embarrassed at any point.
