Great post. The simplest answer is this was never a real QB competition. It was Blaine's job all along. Kaepernick had way too much to overcome here.

This has been my opinion on the matter as well. The dead arm just made explaining it easier.

It's no different than Smelter or now, Anthony Davis. They came in late or like Kaepernick, were still trying to recover as quickly as possible from injuries which leads to soft tissue injuries. That's natural. When that happens others develop and take your jobs. Trenton Brown, a 7th rounder, just stole a starting spot from a former pro bowl tackle who was drafted in the first round.

Like Davis, too little too late. He's not healthy enough for 16 games right out of the gate against stellar defenses. Maybe later on in the year Kelly will want to evaluate him. We'll see.

It wouldn't shock me if he's traded before the deadline.

Yeah that could be the case.

If there is one thing that has NFL teams nervous about Blaine Gabbert, it's the offensive scheme he played in while at Missouri. Gabbert spent the majority of his college career in the shotgun with multiple wide receivers lined up on both sides of him. He almost played in a system that was comparable to what Mike Leach ran at Texas Tech where they would spread you out with that same sort of shotgun look.

This was from a pre-draft right up of Gabbert. Doesn't sound much different from what Chip wants to do in his offense with 5 out on routes. Gabbert doesn't have any major problem transitioning into a pocket passer. Most of the NFL offense doing less of that anyways. I think Gabbbert is a perfect fit for ALL of what Chip likes to do in his offense in regard to passing and running with his qb. Gabbert with a 4.62 speed is plenty.

I think with all of Chip's qb, another question would be... is he durable and can take a hit. Which Kelly also alluded to with subtlety.

WHAT!!!!

No way Kap is traded. I seriously doubt Baalke puts his ass any deeper into that fire.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure Kelly was hoping to have a great battle himself. So if Kaepernick goes out and plays a really nice 6 total series or so the last two pre season games and looks great in practice, Gabbert will have a shorter leash in the regular season. This isn't over. I'm sure everyone would like to see Kaepernick operate in this offense and remember, this is an evaluation period especially for our QBs. Kelly and Baalke both needs answers to prepare for 2017.

Im sorry but that made me lol.

why is that funny?

Becauase nobody is nervous about blaine f**king gabbert lol.

that was a pre-draft writeup, they were talking about being nervous drafting him

I know but the post is suggesting gabbert is now in a system that could make other teama nervous.

Not a chance.

Your reading comprehension has failed in your want to ridicule

One paragraph says gabbert's system in college could make NFL nervous.

Next paragraph you explain how kelly's offense is like his in college.

What more is there to comprehend?

Articulate your point better.

I thought it was pretty clear when, the first thing I said was, this was a pre-draft writeup. Should have written my post to the lowest common denominator of reading comprehension. My bad..

Humans read from top to bottom. Try putting your words first then the words you copied after.

So you are saying they can't retain what they read in the first paragraph in italic long enough, and more importantly going apes**t on Gabbert, to get to the first sentence of my paragraph, explaining the previous paragraph.

OK, lessen noted

yes we don't have time for this crap

zzzzzzzzzz zzzzzzzzz. zzzzzzzzzz

I also won't be surprised if Kap starts by week 4 if the offense is really struggling under Blaine. Chip DGAF about previous events if his offense is struggling.

Might as well close this thread no more practices are open to the media.

So pissed about that. Freaking one practice to the fans that was a little tricky to get a ticket to. Serves admin right because that was the day Kap got hurt. Younger kids aren't going to have that attachment to the 49ers. Nothing to attach to anyway now.

We need a place for pointless depth chart debates.
