How does the Rams trade affect us?

I think Walsh said you draft defensive talent and you develop offensive talent. We have the coach to do just that

This. I don't think we were ever taking at QB at 7 unless Chip fell in love with a prospect and in this super weak QB year, I can't see that in either Goff or Wentz as must haves. Thank you Rams for doing two things; making the defensive pick (that we were going to make anyways) a much easier choice and now really putting the pressure on Denver IF they really want Kapernick. 49ers certainly don't need to get their QB of the future - oh and guess what, Foles might be available as a FA without giving up a pick as an excellent back-up and teacher for the other QBs in the Kelly offense.

If the 49ers trade Kaepernick and pass on a QB, they will be extending the rebuild process IMO. Which better QBs will be available next year?
Who would Foles back up?

Agreed. I think this helps us.

We are guaranteed to get either Jack, Buckner, Tunsil, Ramsey, or Bosa.

That is good for us. Way I see it, we have 2 good QBs on the roster right now.

While I agree with you draft assessment, that the QB's were not worthy of their draft stock. I think we have to OK QB's on the roster who might if we are lucky have potential to surprise us. They not anywhere near what I would consider good right now. That being said it is a bit of a relief that we have virtually been taken out of the running for a chance to overpay for two guys that are almost as risky.

Agreed. The one thing we do know for sure is that Kelly has made average QBs look very good. Foles was amazing two years ago, and the Rams just proved they don't believe in him. I believe Gabbert's skillset is better than Foles, and I know Kap's skillset is better. The key will be which one of those two guys can grasp the playbook better. My guess would be Gabbert.

Only if Rams take Wentz 1st. So it would be a draft day trade... which I hope we dont do. Unless Kap is already gone.

. . . . . And no future franchise QB. If Goff or Wentz is there at 7 we take him, if not get Lynch or Cook in the 2nd. But the Lambs moving up basically insures that both Goof and Wentz will be gone by pick 7. As I see it it hurts us.
I would not be surprised if:

(a) the 49ers trade the 7th pick to the Titans in the upcoming draft so that the Titans can move up and get Stanley OT or Tunsil OT if Mack and Goff are off the Board at 7. Baalke can pick up some of the picks that the Rams gave up and fill some of the 49er roster holes and the Titans GM would still look like a genius moving down and still get say Tunsil. Win - Win

(b) alternatively the 49ers draft a Tunsil or Stanley at 7 if Mack and Goff have gone already and then trade Anthony Davis to Tennessee for a mid round draft pick.

Personally, whether the Rams made this trade or not, our team will can only be screwed by Baalke's own doing.. He does great in this draft and we'll be a contender by year 3.. he starts drafting the way he's been and we'll forever be drafting in the 7 to 15th spot..

Assuming they turn into franchise quarterbacks. No guarantee they will. And no guarantee whoever us highly rated next year won't turn into a franchise QB. Drafting QB's is rarely a sure thing.

LOL. You do realize you could say that about every position on a football team?

Sure. But QB and maybe WR are your biggest gambles. And these two QB's are not considered blue chip, can't miss prospects in the first place. So they are an even greater risk. They just happen to be the best two this year, doesn't mean they are fantastic, bet the franchise on them prospects. Which the Rams just did. When next year's draft comes around, we will see if that was a smart move, or another world class blunder and a story that will be repeated for years. Because, it isn't just a one year cost. If a key player gets injured or retires, and you need to go out and get somebody, it is now a FA move until 2018. No high draft picks this year or next. I think the Titans raped a desperate coach and GM. Just think about that. If you need a new OLB, DE, CB, RB, any position. Your best shot now is a low draft pick. For two years. And if it is a skill position then it might not have an impact the first year. That would mean contributing in 2019. And what if that shiny new QB gets injured? How you going after the next one? I don't believe you ever do anything like this for one player. Unless you have so much talent you can't see a rookie even sniffing the bench. I do not believe the Rams are that deep in talent. Goff or Wentz might be a franchise QB, we will see. I could understand drafting them there in the first round out of pure desperation, but what the Rams gave up? Lunacy.

More than that would be required.

My guess is Chip says YES and the GVB (gravelly voice b*astard) says hell no.

Too steep! My guess is we are drafting in the top 5 next year.
It can still happen: Daniel Jeremiah's new mock draft

PICK NO.
1 CARSON WENTZ
Jeff Fisher had a lot of success with a big, athletic small-school QB in Tennessee.
2 MYLES JACK
The Browns bypass a QB in order to land a potential All-Pro linebacker.
3 JALEN RAMSEY
The Chargers could stabilize the offensive line, but instead grab a playmaker in the secondary.
4 JOEY BOSA
The Cowboys need to upgrade the pass rush and Bosa also adds versatility.
5 DEFOREST BUCKNER
The Jags continue to revamp their front seven by adding Buckner.
6 LAREMY TUNSIL
Ozzie Newsome believes in taking the best available player, and Tunsil is the best player in the entire draft.
7 JARED GOFF
The 49ers can't afford to pass on another talented signal caller in their backyard.

I think this is good for us.....whatever helps us land Deforest Buckner....

I see two really big question marks. Hue might covet a QB, and while he is publicly ok with RG3, would he turn down a shot at one of the two QB's, really? And Dallas needs a replacement for Romo. I think both QB's are gone.
Why do fans peg Myles Jack as a top 10 pick with a late season ACL tear? Teams in the top 10 typically need SOME kind of immediate return at that spot.
