I'm torn on bringing Boldin back, on one hand it would be nice to keep him here to groom some of the young guys, but on the other, he's taking precious playing time away from the young guys, and Smelter should probably be taking over his spot next year. I like Boone, but only want him back, if he comes back at a fair price. He seems like the type of guy who will take the highest bidders offer, thus I don't see him being brought back, and Dawson would want to much to come back, so I'd look for the best K in the draft, and see what he can do. In a lost season, it would be nice to hit on a couple low priced draft picks that will continue to save us money going forward.

I'm sure the 8 starters we have that are free agents will leave as well. Same as last year no one wants to play for this Factory of Sadness

Brooks, Dorsey, Pears, Bethea - I think are all likely, but I have them ranked first to last in order of likelyhood.
Kaepernick I am not sure what they will do. It will be cutting it close on cutting him and his injury clause. If he's not traded he will probably get cut but that's not a sure thing if a new coach comes in IMO.

Kaepernick needs to be moved. He still has some value around the league, but not to much, thus if we can land a 2nd round pick, or a combination of picks with at least a 2nd round pick, then I'd be happy. The main thing with moving Kaepernick, is that it will give us some extra money to spend, and it allows us to get the cap hit out of the way right now, because we're most likely not going to be very competitive in 2016, so might as well take the cap hit now, and have more money to spend in 2017.

Kap will be traded to bills.
Davey should go on principle, he should trade himself out.

Kaepernick
Brooks
Bethea
Dorsey
Pears
Also Devey is ERFA, he probably gets tendered, I wouldn't though, not worth the league minimum.
Only major FAs are Boldin, and Boone. Dawson is also unsigned.
I can see Dorsey being a potential cap casualty given the emergence of Mike Purcell. If Ian Williams is resigned, and he should be, do you think the team's plan is to go forward with Williams and Purcell at NT? I thought Dorsey only had a year or two at most left on his deal. I'd keep him around to backup at NT and DE. We keep 6 DL generally. We could go into 2016 with a FA (Wilkerson, Wolfe, or Jackson), Ian Williams, and Arik Armstead as a starters, Quinton Dial, Mike Purcell, and Glen Dorsey as backups unless someone else emerges to push Dorsey off the roster. But given the space we have, why not carry him for now?
I do agree that Brooks is done. Do you think Eli Harold is starter material just yet or are we likely to go dipping into free agency for an OLB as well? I hate to see Antonie Bethea go, but I think Tartt is ready to roll. There are no issues with the other cuts. They should go and it doesn't matter who replaces them.

Harold needs to gain 20 good pounds, an the strength that should come with it.

He already knows he belongs on the bench. That's why he was there in the first place. Poor guy. Doesn't even know he's on the bench

They should keep Brooks and add Bush to your list. Brooks is a good OLB and unless Harold or Lemonier develops quickly he will be needed. Of course, if they could sign a better FA or draft a monster this would change.
I think Boldin might want to stay having enticed Torrey Smith to sign. I'd like to see him mentoring Smelter and draftee next year. Seems more likely that Patton or Ellington would be released or traded.

They weren't offered contracts. Not the same as no one wanting to play. We are in bad enough shape without the narrative being altered.

Brooks is now used to split snaps anyhow. He might be up for renegotiating down and being a backup, PT player. That would be a win-win.

Upon looking at the numbers, cutting Dorsey would make sense in that it opens up a starting spot for Armstead, and gives us a little extra money to improve the roster else where.
I thought Dorsey played much much better as a NT for us that a 3-4 DE. If for some reason we can't resign Williams then Dorsey would be a fine replacement.
