In regards to Armstead, everything I see on gamedays and read about in post-game analysis is positive.

DE Arik Armstead (+2.8) continued his strong play this season, finishing with a sack, four QB hurries, and the second-highest run defense grade on the defense. Armstead plays limited snaps, but his 15.1 pass rushing productivity is the highest among all 3-4 DE's in the league.

The fact he's been a part time player most of the year is an indictment against the coaching staff, not Armstead. The guy is a stud. Fantastic pick, they need to leave him on the field and let him go to work. He needs to clean up technique, that will come with experience. In the meantime he's throwing people around like rag dolls with shear strength and superior athleticism for the position.

How anyone could not like the guy as a young 22 year old is beyond me.

In my opinion. If someone who knows this teams cant see that armstead is showing flashes of some incredible talent, then they are blind, biased, or have no idea what they are talking about. His play has been sloppy at times, and the technique is an issue. But man, if he cleans that up and add the nfl weight most players do, he is gonna be an animal. people need to chill out on the idea that every draft pick should come in and be a world beater from the beggining, he has done pretty well for what was considered a project player.

Lastly, only noobs look at the box score when discussing 3-4 dlinemen. If stats were the main propenent to a 3-4 defensive lineman's ability then justin smith was below average by nfl standards.

Sorry Marvin for derailing. Back to your assessment.

What are people's thoughts on Hodges? His speed is noticeable to me and he seemed to have a pretty good first start. Maybe thl/JD can highlight him and AA this week since they were the only two who had a decent game, right? LOL

He's definitely a lot faster than Wilhoite was. He's got some talent. Thought he and Bowman had a rough day though. I'll have to re-watch the game or wait for thl/JD analysis, but it seemed like the DL had a good day. Dial/Williams/Armstead were doing the dirty work. The LBs and secondary did not clean up the trash.

I have never been so unmotivated to look at game film than right now.

Do not blame you.....just watch an old game, that's what I do.

The "Team of the Decade" DVD is a lot of fun.

Its obvious to me that the 49ers are just playing to see what Blaine Gabbert can do, if hes the future or not, they were not going to the playoffs anyway. He hasn't played a game in 2 years, so he needs the expereince. This offense was setup to be a more running team, Draughn had like what 16 carries in one game the most? If they were really trying to win they'd mix it up alot better then this.

That pretty much sums it up. Zone coverage was horrendous...tackling...angles...motivation...etc. Just an all-out sh!t storm.

I've been on a 1987 season kick lately....dude on YouTube uploaded like 4-5 games. The ass kicking of the Bears and Rams is on there.

That's because there's nothing to gain or evaluate from a game where the coaches didn't prepare the players properly. Every single mistake could possibly be blamed on coaching. Maybe all except for Gabbert trying to keep his completion percentage by running out of bound behind the LOS.

But why even get emotionally involved? Seasons been over for awhile. Wins and Losses only determining draft position.

Them looking that bad only highlights where the problems are. I much prefer a game like Cleveland that illustrates the fact that a total rebuild may be in order than a game like Chicago where you get a false sense that they can "get by".

My worst nightmare is them winning just enough games to lose a top 10 pick AND make ownership everything can be hunky dory.

If we had a GM that had picked a decent OL in the draft over the last few years we wouldn't be starting guy who shouldn't even be on a team. So what good is a high draft pick if you are always picking the wrong talent?

Take chances on half a dozen hurt players who have produced nothing is one reason we are where we are.

How many players on our team would start for good teams? Maybe a handful? I know injuries happen but we have a team of barely backups to practice squad maybes.

They did not resign Frank Gore. 8 or 9 guys have carried the ball for the 49ers this year. That is unheard of.
They trade 3 or 4 Tight Ends? I've lost count. They are down to starting a Rookie and a practice squad player.
They traded for OL who should not be on the team let alone a starter.

There is nothing more to see here. This team needs an enema and it starts at the GM.

This is the worst logic ever.

"Our GM sucks so who cares if we get a good pick?". Well in that case, who cares about anything ever?

For the record...

That same GM selected the two players we lost this offseason along the O-Line. Who expects a 26 year old RT to retire?

Yup, his OTHER picks at O-Line haven't worked out, but it doesn't work out for everyone all the time...ever.

Frank Gore is currently averaging 3.6 yards per carry in Indy. Get over it.

When he was healthy, Hyde was averaging 4.0 yards per carry behind the worst line in football.

TE? Did you see Vernon lose the game for Denver? They got a pick for a player that's DONE. Did you see McDonald get hurt? Did you see Celek get hurt? How exactly is that the GMs fault?

They traded for a lineman when it became clear Thomas wasn't working out and neither were the other young players on the team. Its not like starting O-Linemen are just sitting out there to be had just before the season starts. Mathis was never an option because he wanted to play for a winner and the 49ers were not viewed as such.

This BS about Baalke is just as lazy as the BS with York. No GM is perfect.

Who has Baalke drafted?

Anthony Davis. Mike Iupati. Navorro Bowman. Aldon Smith. Colin Kaepernick. Chris Culliver. Daniel Kilgore. Bruce Miller. Eric Reid. Quinton Dial. Jimmie Ward. Carlos Hyde. Chris Borland. Aaron Lynch. Kenneth Acker. Arik Armstead. Jaquiski Tartt.

...among others.

No GM bats 1000. NOBODY. Nobody bats .500. Just doesn't happen. Not every player selected is going to be a starting NFL player. Taking good backups is ALSO important.

I haven't even gotten to the luck he's had in the bargain basement in Free Agency. Clearly didn't work this year, but it has in a big way in the past (Rogers, Whitner, Goodwin).

You can ramble on for days if you want. Doesn't change the fact we have a horrible team. The GM is responsible for that. Not sure what else to say.

Right....and unexpected player retirements, injuries, players aging and player legal stupidity had absolutely nothing to do with it. Dude, please.

There are good GMs on bad teams all over the place. Circumstance has just as much to do with it as the GM does.

Put another way, how good would the team be with Anthony Davis? How much better would they be with Aldon Smith playing opposite Aaron Lynch? How good would they be with Willis or Borland playing beside Bowman?

How good would they be it Hyde could stay on the field?

Complicated issue. Efforts to simplify it in an effort to put blame on someone are foolish.

Funny part is I just gave you a long string of players that were very good or are very promising and you flat ignored it to again make no real point whatsoever other than you are unwilling to see a more nuanced view than "HE SUCKS!!".
This is also the same GM that let culliver walk cox walk upattia walk Crabtree walk witner walk I mean he made mistakes also dude. There's an old saying you can't make chicken salad out of chicken s**t! He gonna be judged just like anyone else. Everyone needs to be held accountable for this joke of a team from top to bottom

Double whammy. We had Harbaugh, let him go and then we had Gase and Fangio.

If you look back, we let Harbaugh, Fangio, and Gase go for....

I agree. Sure it'd be nice if he was as flashy as Aldon Smith or JJ Watt were in their respective rookie seasons but on the whole he's been very good. You've mentioned the grade above which I think is a better indicator of individual performance.

As for playing time I'm not overly concerned at this point. The guy should see more looks in the rotation but it's possible the guy is not yet ready for a full grind physically. I'm excited to see if he grows as a player next season because if he does look out.

Gabbert had 2 open receivers for the first down to beat the blitz right in front of him. But he didn't throw the ball. I wonder why..lol
