to be honest, i believe we do have a solid core of players (outside of the o-line). but the coaching staff has no clue wtf they are doing. IMO, Reid is the best example. solid in coverage under fangio, but under mangini.... wtf are you doing no where near the ball.

I was just talking about how damn frustrated I am because I can't even evaluate our young team properly until we get a competent HC, OC, and DC, good scheme, good game plans, out coach and opponent, etc. I said the same thing about HaRoman too. Sooooo frustrating.

All of this.

Cox is meh, Culliver blew out his ACL and was in and out of the lineup just like our boy, Iupati, Carrier has done nothing, we got Hodges for a guy who's never seen a snap, we got a pick for VD who Bronco fans hate already, Gore is meh and splits carries and Draughn alone has brought more versatility to the offense, Crabtree just wanted out to play for a team, like us, who will be watching the playoffs from home (but he got paid so expect no more training camps for him - LOL), Aldon's in jail, etc.

Who else?

How much did these teams MASSIVELY overpay for that "meh" production? That's good GMing right there. LOL

The "30 for 30" or "a football life" on the demise of the 2011-14 49ers is gonna be fascinating (if they make one). Ego's and just really s**tty luck made this fall shift and complete. Jed f**ked up by handling it the way he did, Harbs is gonna have a hard time find a team that was as seemingly stack as we where in the cap era of he ever wants back in the pro game and us as fans have to suffer through the bull s**t. It's just so frustrating and so unnecessary.

I'm fine with them wanting to move on from Harbs. However, I can't imagine handling it any worse. You can't make it looks like you force out a 70% win guy. If he really wants to leave you make him quit or work out the duration of his contract.

It's just sucks.....the mood and environment around the team is mid '00s low and we really are the worst team in the league. I said it earlier, I hope this loss to the s**tty ass Ohio-based Browns shames the Ohio-based Yorks in to rebooting it. I really don't know how much more evidence they need, getting out gained 475+ to 150 until garbage time by a team that's gonna lose 12+ games should seal Tomsula's fate.

I could NOT agree more. So frustrating!

Just clone BW and get on with it!
There is multiple reasons why things happpend the way they did during this game. This article does a very good job pointing out the obvious and its all very true from our horrible coaching to terrible play.We have to agree though that it doesn't matter if Bill Walsh was our coach and Joe was Quarter backing our O line doesnt belong in the NFL. 9 sacks 27 hurries and 11 hits!!!! We need help up front on both sides of the ball and a head coach that can manage the complexity of an NFL offence.

The 9 sacks out of 27 dropbacks were simply impressive...ok, depressive. How in the world, with no OL to block, geep managed to call for any pass that takes more than 1 second to be thrown....is beyond me. Any pass taking more than 1.8 seconds was a sack for sure. You could bet money on it. Yet geep managed to call, well, probably 9 of them. What a F.U. of major proportions. Yet there was geep calling for 3 to 4 second plays....utterly amazing ...

Then how in the world our GM got the 3 stooges as backup OLs is equally beyond me. Pears, mmartin, and devey do not have the tools, or moves or smarts or maybe even all 3...to play in the NFL. Astounding performance by the worst 3 OLs in the entire league. They tried to get gab killed, but somehow failed. If gab is going to play again here, at least make the above 3 guys stay home.

I love it when guys say we need more WRs, or DL, or RB, or Qb, or anything but OL. That is our 1st, 2nd and 3rd round need. OUch.
Does the team want to score more than 14pts per game? It's like watching the turnstiles at the MCG.

It was a perfect storm of ugly. That's leadership's fault. Hoping there is some seismic shift in this franchise soon, after bottoming out and three more progressively braver losses.

Unfortunately, I think you only get one shot a league/game transforming innovator in your franchise lifetime.

However, if we took either one of my favorite BW tree guys (Holmgren & Shanny) I have I hard time seeing us this inept on offense and getting our teeth kicked in on a regular basis. I don't care if they are labeled as retreads or not. They are professional and both deserved a shot way before JT.
I saw lots of guys talking abou Tartt and Armstead and I agree they were both great but a guy that should gain more talk IMO is Tiller. He played pretty well but I don't see anybody talking about him.

I know we gave up 9 sacks but most of them were bad calls by Chryst or Pears and Martin getting blown out.

But why even get emotionally involved? Seasons been over for awhile. Wins and Losses only determining draft position.

Them looking that bad only highlights where the problems are. I much prefer a game like Cleveland that illustrates the fact that a total rebuild may be in order than a game like Chicago where you get a false sense that they can "get by".

My worst nightmare is them winning just enough games to lose a top 10 pick AND make ownership everything can be hunky dory.

If we had a GM that had picked a decent OL in the draft over the last few years we wouldn't be starting guy who shouldn't even be on a team. So what good is a high draft pick if you are always picking the wrong talent?

Take chances on half a dozen hurt players who have produced nothing is one reason we are where we are.

How many players on our team would start for good teams? Maybe a handful? I know injuries happen but we have a team of barely backups to practice squad maybes.

They did not resign Frank Gore. 8 or 9 guys have carried the ball for the 49ers this year. That is unheard of.
They trade 3 or 4 Tight Ends? I've lost count. They are down to starting a Rookie and a practice squad player.
They traded for OL who should not be on the team let alone a starter.

There is nothing more to see here. This team needs an enema and it starts at the GM.

This is the worst logic ever.

"Our GM sucks so who cares if we get a good pick?". Well in that case, who cares about anything ever?

For the record...

That same GM selected the two players we lost this offseason along the O-Line. Who expects a 26 year old RT to retire?

Yup, his OTHER picks at O-Line haven't worked out, but it doesn't work out for everyone all the time...ever.

Frank Gore is currently averaging 3.6 yards per carry in Indy. Get over it.

When he was healthy, Hyde was averaging 4.0 yards per carry behind the worst line in football.

TE? Did you see Vernon lose the game for Denver? They got a pick for a player that's DONE. Did you see McDonald get hurt? Did you see Celek get hurt? How exactly is that the GMs fault?

They traded for a lineman when it became clear Thomas wasn't working out and neither were the other young players on the team. Its not like starting O-Linemen are just sitting out there to be had just before the season starts. Mathis was never an option because he wanted to play for a winner and the 49ers were not viewed as such.

This BS about Baalke is just as lazy as the BS with York. No GM is perfect.

Who has Baalke drafted?

Anthony Davis. Mike Iupati. Navorro Bowman. Aldon Smith. Colin Kaepernick. Chris Culliver. Daniel Kilgore. Bruce Miller. Eric Reid. Quinton Dial. Jimmie Ward. Carlos Hyde. Chris Borland. Aaron Lynch. Kenneth Acker. Arik Armstead. Jaquiski Tartt.

...among others.

No GM bats 1000. NOBODY. Nobody bats .500. Just doesn't happen. Not every player selected is going to be a starting NFL player. Taking good backups is ALSO important.

I haven't even gotten to the luck he's had in the bargain basement in Free Agency. Clearly didn't work this year, but it has in a big way in the past (Rogers, Whitner, Goodwin).

You can ramble on for days if you want. Doesn't change the fact we have a horrible team. The GM is responsible for that. Not sure what else to say.

I agree with God.

In regards to Armstead, everything I see on gamedays and read about in post-game analysis is positive.

DE Arik Armstead (+2.8) continued his strong play this season, finishing with a sack, four QB hurries, and the second-highest run defense grade on the defense. Armstead plays limited snaps, but his 15.1 pass rushing productivity is the highest among all 3-4 DE's in the league.

The fact he's been a part time player most of the year is an indictment against the coaching staff, not Armstead. The guy is a stud. Fantastic pick, they need to leave him on the field and let him go to work. He needs to clean up technique, that will come with experience. In the meantime he's throwing people around like rag dolls with shear strength and superior athleticism for the position.

How anyone could not like the guy as a young 22 year old is beyond me.

In my opinion. If someone who knows this teams cant see that armstead is showing flashes of some incredible talent, then they are blind, biased, or have no idea what they are talking about. His play has been sloppy at times, and the technique is an issue. But man, if he cleans that up and add the nfl weight most players do, he is gonna be an animal. people need to chill out on the idea that every draft pick should come in and be a world beater from the beggining, he has done pretty well for what was considered a project player.

Lastly, only noobs look at the box score when discussing 3-4 dlinemen. If stats were the main propenent to a 3-4 defensive lineman's ability then justin smith was below average by nfl standards.

My problem with Armstead is that he seems to have few football instincts. He may be powerful, but he hasn't shown good tackling, tracking where the ball is or who has it. Blowing up OLinemen looks cool but if he's not getting the ball carrier, its useless.
Thoughts after rewatching the game....

Nice breakdown of all 9 sacks plus blame.

How many guys ESCAPED who had been Niner rd 1 picks? MOST of them. Baalke etc.....seemed taken by surprise. No communication. It was a meltdown and The Front office has to be held to blame. The Niners... not so long ago almost Super Bowl Champs.... got their butts kicked by the BROWNS... who had looked like " the worst". Is the bleeding stopped yet? We shall see.

Walsh didn't have to deal with free agency and a salary cap either.

Good breakdown. So to sum it all up:

4 sacks on the O-line (3 on Pears, 1 on Martin)
3 sacks on extra protection (1 each for Miller, Bell, Leonhardt)
2 sacks on Chryst (potato play-calling)

Sounds about right.

Thank you!
I really hope we can get Hue Jackson for our HC next year because this coaching staff is going to ruin the next draft class and further ruin our existing players. The only problem is York is to prideful to emits his errors
