What will Gabbert be?

Why are people so hesitant to say that Gabbert can be "The Guy", He has played very good against some of the highest rated D's in the league. He has shown that he can read a D, feel the pocket, and keep his eyes downfield and bail at the right time. He gets rid of the ball early and he is helping our banged up O line look better than what it truly is. What else do we need to see from him? He has done well against good D's, all of the QB's struggle against good D's, look at Rodgers against the seahawks, he always struggles against them until most recently. The best move for the Niners would be to get an offensive minded HC, keep Gabbert and draft other positions like LB, OL, and DL.

Cowboy, I haven't read many of your posts, but sure like your thinking here. As for our HC, he HAS TO BE an OC, and i would like to see him as OC/HC first few yrs. That means we are looking for the best of the best. Not someone we choose by default. We need experience and success at the OC position, and a guy able to manage a team ready to make a run. Much as i like tomsula personally, i think he is just not the one for this job. He is a great DL coach, but really inexperienced at everything else.

Assuming we get a break and continue to get good play from blaine, we should be able to get 3 starting OLs , 1 starting DT, 1 starter at OLB passrusher between draft and FA. Put off the QB franchise player for this yr, mainly becuause there is no Luck, mariotta, winston, nor cam. Wait til 2017 . Meantime we don't have to burn a high pick on a Qb and let blaine bridge us to 2017. Then get our franchise Qb...unless blaine happens to be that guy. By then we will have the book on him, and can decided then. Point is, bad as we are, we are 5 players away from once more having a loaded team, and for that we need, we deserve the best at OC/HC. Until we get that guy,Jed has not done all he can do for this team.

Good stuff. People are scared to trust their eyes. Can you honestly say that he doesn't look better than half the QB's you watch on TV? In a league of crappy QB's, I believe he more than satisfies the QB position, draft another QB for competition in a later round, focus on other needs .... (P.S., Walsh always said never draft a QB in the first round, too risky. But then, didn't he draft Carmazzi in the first? )
I know it's a small sample size, but I have been really impressed with Gabbert's play. He really looks like a NFL caliber starting QB.

I would rather the 49ers commit to Gabby, rather than some over drafted prospect for 2 reasons.

1. Gabbert passes the eyeball test.. He had everything you look for in a modern QB.. We are super lucky he fell into our lap.

2. I have zero confidence in Baalke being able to draft a good QB and I have even less confidence that we have the right coaches to properly develop a QB prospect.

3. I would keep an eye on Luke Falk at WSU (sophomore) The kid is a winner. He should have won the PAC12 player of the year.. Maybe we draft him next year. (Full disclosure, I am a Coug homer, Niner die hard).

Dave Wilcox!

He was the best player on the Niners when I was a little kid. Larry Csonka once said Wilcox hit him as hard as he's ever been hit.
Gabbert was drafted to be a franchise qb. He's looking like he's heading that way now. Above average physical talent with mental ability to understand and play the position with good decision making. And most importantly, the ability to make good decisions when plays break down.

All the things required to be a franchise qb.

Agreed. I think people are just infatuated with Goff because he is a Cal kid, and in the back of all our minds is passing on Rodgers.

One of my favs from way back.. That's how you know your old ...

Shocked the Niners never retired his number. How can you be in the HOF and not have your number retired by the only team you ever played for.

Hell yeah to the Luke Falk idea. Coug fan here as well lol.
I live in the Seattle area and it is interesting to hear comments from Seahawks fans about Blaine.

First off, most Seahawks fans hate the 49ers, but not as much as they used to now that Harbs is gone.. Harbaugh really stoked the rivalry. Most Seahawks fans hate Kap, because he is so closely tied Harbs but they have no fear of Kap, because they know Kap always self destructs.

Seahawks fans view Gabbert as a major upgrade on every level, smarter, more poised, better accuracy, pocket presence, just better in every way.

Dave Wyman played LB for years with the Seahawks and Broncos. He came out and said on Radio yesterday that he thought Gabbert was good and getting better every week. He also said he was quietly pulling for the 49ers because they had suffered through enough misery. Even John Clayton agreed with him and Clayton had been saying Gabbert was a stiff a month ago. Clayton has lots of company though, all around the league, people are changing their tune on Gabbert... Eating crow.

The way I see it we, the 49er fans are lucky to have him. Find a capable backup in free agency and focus on building the OL in the draft.
I picked bridge QB simply because my logic tells that's more then likely what he will be. Althiough his play is a good signal, I need to see more before I can say he is the QB of the future. The skills are all there though,
I'm in I think this cat can play! Has a ton of talent and I would like to see him with some other pieces around him like a actual OL! Time will tell but I can say this much Kap is done the guy is just lost. No help for Collin SlAperdick! Watch out Ness!
I like Gabbert, but not forgetting Kap's first career start vs the Bears. That was exciting. The sky was the limit. The tape is out there for opposing defenses to gameplan. It's on Geep to evolve and keep them honest. Even if unsuccessful, stretch the field early.
Unfortunately our playcalling no matter who is Qb has been abysmal. Do we run 92% of the time on 1st down? Because if not, it sure seems so. Three 3 and outs to start the game means 2nd and 3rd and long. Then we changed up a bit, but quickly reverted to running on every stinking first down, literally insuring yet another 3 and out. Gads that is hard to watch. So is it geep, or is it tomsula? whatever it is a gamekiller, a QB killer and a guaranteed loser . PLaycalling has got to change.
To add a little statistics for comparison. Gabbert has a season QB rating of 82.8 higher than Kaepernick rating of 78.5. However, Gabber's season QBR is 38.9, much lower than Kaepernick's 47.1. Obviously for contractual reasons, Gabbert will be with the team next season. Kaep will be gone. All we can hope is that the supporting cast is so bad that you throw in any QB out there they would suck badly..
Blaine has franchise QB written all over him. Strong arm, accurate, pocket presence, and presser presence. No reason to draft QB, that will only hurt Blaine's confidence. Instead, give him couple years to improve and establish.
