Good point, but they are against some legit teams with strong defenses. Its not like they are crappy teams. We had Arizona on the ropes and the ref's let em of the hook!

Don't laugh, there is a spooky resemblance between Young's first few years in the NFL and Gabbert's so far.
But hey I hope to hell he balls out and becomes our franchise savior. Draft is much easier for a team when you got a qb.

Don't know...I am not so sure Kap was getting the job back before he even went on IR.
I'm just saying, Kap is still on the roster and if Baalke was asked who the starting QB is he would beat around the bush and say Kap if he was healthy. So until I see Kap in another jersey or uniform I'd say Kap. WHO I THINK should be the starting QB, most definitely Gabbert of course.
I think he can be the guy but I haven't seen enough to think he will be a good QB for years to come.

Unfortunately it is really hard to tell on something like that....even by the end of the year you will need to decide on a bit of a leap of faith. Guys put together stretches of good play and parlay it into a contract then fall off all the time. Still I am liking that he is getting a nice extended audition.

I am too, with Kaepernick on IR he the pressure if off to keep his job this year and they have all of next year to evaluate Gabbert as well.

Would any front office just "give" Kaepernick his job back? He was outplayed last preseason by Gabbert. He sucked unbelievably bad when he played this year, Gabbert came in and the team looks light years better, with less to work with. Why in the name of God (Bill Walsh), would anyone "give" the job back to him? Let him compete for it? Sure. But give it to him....NO.

Our starting QB for the next 7-10 years? That is like putting the entire 9ers' future in his hands, no way!! Unless that is you want an average QB to be your franchise QB and use the rest of the capital to invest on all other positions. I don't know about that. Common logic says you need a good QB to win.
Gabbert is an OK QB, I am happy that he has made strides from his time with the Jaguars. And I don't even mind if he stays as the starting QB until there is someone better. The 9ers wouldn't be doing their job if they didn't draft a QB to at least groom and let him compete with Gabbert. Is called due diligence.

I'm liking what I see so far. Too early to tell for sure, but we have to give him next season to find out. At the very least, it removes the need to draft a QB in round 1, and will allow us to sort out the the OL and pass rush first.
Just look through the latest power rankings, and ask yourself, would the top teams be that much worse off if Gabbert was their starting QB??
http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap3000000596779/article/nfl-power-rankings-week-14-seahawks-climb-patriots-drop
I'm not saying he's as good as the QBs that make up that list, but there are many parts to a winning team. The top 3 QBs entering the season according to bleacher report were:
3. Tom Brady - He's probably the only guy who is irreplaceable.
2. Andrew Luck - Yeah, exactly. His team sucks, and he sucked this year.
1. Aaron Rodgers - Currently sitting at 8-4 and not looking to win anything this year because his OL sucks, his WR's suck, and his Defense is soft.

Why are people so hesitant to say that Gabbert can be "The Guy", He has played very good against some of the highest rated D's in the league. He has shown that he can read a D, feel the pocket, and keep his eyes downfield and bail at the right time. He gets rid of the ball early and he is helping our banged up O line look better than what it truly is. What else do we need to see from him? He has done well against good D's, all of the QB's struggle against good D's, look at Rodgers against the seahawks, he always struggles against them until most recently. The best move for the Niners would be to get an offensive minded HC, keep Gabbert and draft other positions like LB, OL, and DL.
Cowboy, I haven't read many of your posts, but sure like your thinking here. As for our HC, he HAS TO BE an OC, and i would like to see him as OC/HC first few yrs. That means we are looking for the best of the best. Not someone we choose by default. We need experience and success at the OC position, and a guy able to manage a team ready to make a run. Much as i like tomsula personally, i think he is just not the one for this job. He is a great DL coach, but really inexperienced at everything else.
Assuming we get a break and continue to get good play from blaine, we should be able to get 3 starting OLs , 1 starting DT, 1 starter at OLB passrusher between draft and FA. Put off the QB franchise player for this yr, mainly becuause there is no Luck, mariotta, winston, nor cam. Wait til 2017 . Meantime we don't have to burn a high pick on a Qb and let blaine bridge us to 2017. Then get our franchise Qb...unless blaine happens to be that guy. By then we will have the book on him, and can decided then. Point is, bad as we are, we are 5 players away from once more having a loaded team, and for that we need, we deserve the best at OC/HC. Until we get that guy,Jed has not done all he can do for this team.

Seems like the world's greatest game manager so far.
