Haven't read the entire thread so not sure if anybody else addressed this but I'm going to lump our WRs in with the bad. I'm sure some of you will disagree with me but Boldin (love him to death) is on his last legs. He's still capable of making the tough catch and moving the chains but god is he ever slow.

Starting to wonder if Torrey Smith is the equivalent of Colin Kaepernick in that he's got great straight line speed and that's about it! Patton and Ellington show potential but they are slow to step up as well.

Realize that Gabbert has only been starting for a brief period of time and it takes time to develop his timing with the receiving corp. That and our receivers are now used to running very rudimentary routes designed to allow Kap to succeed. But that that Kap is riding the pine, how difficult is it to turn the switch on and allow the receivers to run more sophisticated patterns? I sense a chicken and egg syndrome going on here. Are we failing because of the WR play or from Jeep's play calling or both?

I am encouraged from the TE play of late. But the effort from the WRs? Meh. Certainly see a lot of room for improvement here.

Luckily, there seems to be some depth at WR spot in the draft this year.

Why do you doubt it? He's not the same 21 year old that Jacksonville drafted.

Seems to me you've made your mind up with your quote "But I don't care how well he plays going forward" which seems a little silly IMO. It would be different if there was a stud coming out of the draft, but it's not even close to a good QB draft class and Lynch and Goff will both be over drafted.
Well, I think it's silly to think that the future QB is in the team. I think it's silly to rely on Gabbert taking us to the next level next season. And compared to what we already have Lynch, Cook, and Goff are studs and worth our top pick. (All three are vastly better options than Gabbert.) What this team needs at the QB position is an infusion of top talent, not yet another "just good enough" or "potential" or "value" QB that the coaches are gonna need to spend so much developmental time on him that it holds the team back, and one that only one coach can coach (sounds familiar?).

Your right, I have made my mind up. Why? Because I've seen enough of to be convinced that Gabbert isn't the future for this team, no more than Jimmie T. is. Gabbert was terribly over drafted, and his career to this point bares that out.

Like I said, Gabbert can be an excellet bridge QB. And if he continue to play well then he'll provide good trade value for 2017.

IMHO

All three of the QB's I mentioned are starters. But I think the smart move would be to give them a season to develop - the Aaron Rogers model. Plus, this O-line needs at least one more early round guy. No need to ruin a young talent by throwing him behind an O-line with protection and consistency issues. Sitting him for a season also allows him to come in with an established O-line to pass behind.

What have Lynch, Goff, or Cook done in the NFL to be called studs? They haven't proven anything yet and Goff has never even beaten a team that was actually ranked....every analyst and scout has called this draft class underwhelming in the QB dept.

Lynch in Goff don't run a pro-style offense and that alone takes time for a QB to adapt too. Goff is like 200 Lbs soaking wet lol.

Blaine Gabbert is EXACTLY what Goff and Lynch are....spread offense QBs who put up huge numbers in college. They will both be over drafted just like Blaine was....they BOTH need at least a year to learn how the NFL works and adapted to play with grown ass men. The difference is Blaine is a grown ass man now and has learned how the NFL works. He was thrown to the wolves in Jacksonville and eaten alive, most players crumble up and call it a career (say hello Locker, EJ, and Ponder),but Blaine got to learn grow and now has a 2nd chance and is making this team competitive against some of the best defenses in the league (hasn't played a D lower then 10th overall ranked).

Look who has helping him out at RB that was selling insurance a month ago, one of the worst OLs in the league, a OC who hasn't called plays in 14 years, and his best WR is slower than hell and 35 years old.

He's not the same player he was in Jacksonville https://www.profootballfocus.com/blog/2015/12/07/blaine-gabbert-is-playing-a-lot-better-for-the-niners-than-he-did-for-the-jags/

NO QB drafted in the top 10 sits for a year just doesn't happen. Teams say they're gonna let him sit an learn, but the moment they lose a couple games they throw in the rookie who's not even close to being ready.

Everyone complains about Baalke drafting developmental players but everyone wants him to invest a top 10 pick on one in a horrible QB class smh.
I don't know if Gabby is the QB of the future.

But what I do know is you need an excellent back-up either way you look at it.

Look how many good teams tank when their starter is out.

So, IMO, it's either or.

Gabby as starter or as 2nd guy up.

Then let's just trade out of the 1st and 2nd round altogether and stack a bunch of "value pick"?

You are right about Goff, which is why I consistently place him under Cook and Lynch. Personally, I like Cook, and I've been high on him before the Big 10 title game (where he played with and injured throwing shoulder). 5th year senior with a ton quality wins. No way he makes it out of the top 20, and that's being modest. Mich. St runs a read-option, but not a pure one. Make no mistake about it, Cook is a pocket passer, better than Gabbert and Kaep.

But hey, agree to disagree.

My issue is this draft class doesn't have top QBs and they will be over drafted because of the postion they play.

You don't draft a developmental QB with a top 10 pick, you just don't. IF they want a QB to develop grab someone like wentz who got all the potential just needs time like th other guys and he's not gonna coast you a top 10 pick.

It may be a horrible QB class. But Lynch and Cook are real deals. I'm not sold on Goff.

Well I don't disagree, this post is spot on IMO

I've been seeing the same thing.. When I watch the GamePass and look at the whole field the WR's just aren't getting open. We may need WR help just as much as OL.

This team has changed dramatically since he took over. He did something today we haven't seen in a long time. When the game was on the line he put it on his shoulders twice at the end of regulation and overtime. That showed me that he may have a bit of the "clutch" factor that we thought Kap would continue to show and develop. Can't wait to watch the rest of the games to see what happens.
Gabbart: 18/30 318 Yds 1 TD 1 INT?

Got your stats wrong bro...
Gabbert: 18/32 196 yards 1TD 0 INT
