Gabbert was accurate and did not make mistakes. Was very clutch while taking 4 sacks and avoiding 3-4 more. Ran when he needed to and is very fast. Very impressed with him against a very good Seattle d Arizona d ok atl d and ok bears d. He might be a very good starter if we f**kING BENCH MARTIN. Martin alone cost us 4 first downs and at least 60-100 yards of passing. Unbelievable how bad he is.

Bad
No pass rush whatsoever I'm surprised our secondary is doing as well as it has been lately. I hate you Aldon smith. Dam. Can brooks ever NOT JUMP OFFSIDES?

Our special teams sucks ass and could of cost us bigtime.

Lbs missing tackles all day but hodges is better than wilhoite. I've never seen our run d this bad in the last 6-7 years. Maybe 10 years.

Either way for a Niner team that is almost ALL BACKUPS and even some practice squad players I am impressed. If we had some of our starters healthy we would have GB NYG ARIZ (refs) games and we would be 7-5 and in the wild card easily.

i thought gabbert and cutler were both scatter shots today. gabbert looked like he was succumbing to pressure though and i thought we lost him after he got crumpled in an awkward pile on that sack.

lol at the announcers not realizing gabbert's athleticism though. dude's got a faster 3 cone drill time than russell wilson. great to see him show some grit and toughness after a tough day.

No pass rush whatsoever.

Pinion has an incredible leg. Changed the field position game.

Ellington is horrible at returning. Bring back Hayne.

Gabby is clutch.

Pears and Martin need to sit.

Mcdonald going out hurt the offense. He has a bright future if he can stay healthy.

And a faster 40 than kap even though kap runs faster with pads on. Gabbert is mobile and I thought his deep ball to t smith against the cards where he burned Matthieu was severely under thrown or else smith would of had another 70 yard td and a niners win.

This week the deep ball was perfect. In the air for 55 yards with arc touch air niceeeee

Great post! It's going to be interesting to see what happens from here on out. I'm a lot more optimistic then most. We had the craziest s**t happen to this team but they are still fighting. No quit. That's for sure.

Martin's problem is that he's competing against elite athletes, yet he has the hips and legs of a very large woman.

Seriously though, he still needs to trim off some of that baby fat and build some lower body strength. He's getting thrown around like a rag doll and can't sustain a block to save his life.

i think once we get an o-line that can give him some time, he can consistently make passes past the markers. it was definitely nice to see a qb throw with some air underneath tho!
Having trouble the past few weeks catching the day games live... Primetime works so much better. (We got one more vs the Bengals on MNF)
Watched on condensed replay instead.

Good:
Gabbert, what can you say without him you don't win this game... Came up clutch twice at the end of the game, after putting in a solid all around performance.

Draughn has been serviceable in Hyde's absence, particularly with his receiving ability. The play of Gabbert no doubt is making it easier for these guys; Hyde would be killing it right now.

The fight, it's good to see the team competing & not feeling sorry for themselves. We seem to be transitioning from a bad team into an average team & after the world's worst offseason I'll take it. (Not to mention after Luck/Refs going against the team last week v the Cards it would have be easy to feel unmotivated, but they fought hard & Luck/Robbie Gould's WTF kick at the death favoured us this week.

Agree about Ward, he's doing some nice things out there.

Browns, Lions & Rams are all winnable games for us.

Bad:
O-line & D-line struggles... Gabbert getting rid of the ball faster helps, but the O-line still has protection issues. D-line is just depleted & inconsistent, often little to no pass rush & it's been awhile since the 49ers were so poor defending the run.

This won't be the strongest QB draft class & it looks like we're going to be drafting too far back to land one of the big names... It's looking like a project QB in the latter rounds will be our best option.

Ellington is regressing.

Ugly:
That mess during the touchback, the condensed version of game didn't show all the details, but either way what a missed opportunity to score or pin them deep.
Tackling at times was not so much ugly but more, well, SOFT!!!

I thought at times Gabbert looked a lot like Kaepernick waiting for something to come open and it never did by the time he reached his drop back. This isn't good, but he only was caught doing it a few times. I thought he played good enough, but it wasn't an incredible performance. The team is struggling on 3rd down and Gabbert has to shoulder a bit of the blame. The play calling has been pretty conservative at times too.

Having Hyde back would have made quite a big difference IMO.

All that said Gabbert has shown me enough to be relatively confident in him starting for us next year. He might even be the future, although I'd still draft a QB high regardless.
Unfortunately I can only go by what passes for highlights.

Wards pick 6 was well read, but I was impressed with Bowman on that play. He is pressuring Cutler, but when Cutler throws, Bowman follows the ball at speed (instead of just stopping because his assignment is complete), putting himself in good position to help protect Ward as Ward steadies to take it in.

We would still pick 4th or 5th because we have scored the least amount of points among the 4-8 teams I believe. They will win again next week and probably finish 5-11.
The ugly Ellington can't hold on to the freaking ball! I was seeing flashbacks of Kyle Williams!
Well, during the 1st quarter, I want to bring up Tiller, Staley and martin on the O line and the d line in general.

pass pro, 1st QT - first three three and outs

Tiller can stonewall just about anybody but sometimes he gets caught squaring up against a DT when he should keep his head to the inside to watch for stunts. On the first three and outs, Tiller was guilty of locking onto his guy and not seeing the DE looping around until he was already by him. Tiller's feet are too slow to make up for technique mistakes. This is fixable but this happens at too high of a rate.

Martin isn't fixable at this point. Martin might have technique issues but he is literally thrown to the side too often. Obviously Gabbert can't have DTs or LBs running straight up the middle.

Staley was getting beat on a regular basis. I haven't seen this in a while. I like staley but everybody needs help sometimes, Geep should've kept a TE over him or chipped with a RB to help.

All I am going to say about the d line is wherever the bears ran the football, our d lineman were pushed nearly three yards off of the LOS on a consistent basis. Ian Williams is our most consistent d lineman. After williams there is a big drop off in consistency and performance. There were runs where Forte had multiple holes to pick from putting our LBs in really bad spots. We started to play better towards the end of the game because I think we started to run blitz more. At any rate, it is scary how soft we are at the point of attack against the run.

Yes, the touch back was both ugly and brilliant . tossing thrall of of the end zone without hi feet touching... Brilliant and rare. The mess after? Ugly. But you should know, because we touched it first, we can not score on that play.
