What I mean is that some mistakes and poor play calling or crappy players can hide in a winning team (e.g. 4 fumbles 2 lost in the Steelers team tonight). When you lose sometimes then everything is questioned. The niners this season have exposed a lot. The good thing is that while there are so many problems they can still put themselves in a position to win.
But to answer your weird comment. If you look through NFL history some the greatest stories were about players and coaches with passion and heart and not always about winning or SB. That is what the fans get from paying their money. No one likes to watch a boring slug it out game just because the coaches were playing to win at all cost.

What was the ruling on the Patton near save at the goal line on a punt? The ball crossed the plane of the goal line, Patton threw it back in. Touches a CHI player. Could that have been a TD if recovered? Had to step away during the game. TIA

My understanding was it would have been a TD if we recovered. However it went out of the end zone and was not possessed by a chi player so touchback.

No. Once Patton touched it, the 49ers could not get a TD off of it even if the Bears did touch it.

This. The commentators finally acknowledged it in game.

Makes perfect sense. Otherwise defenders would bat the ball at the return guy.

It was either going to be a touchback or placed on the 2 yard line. Once the punting team touches the ball before the receiving team, the receiving team can pick up the ball, fumble, and still maintain possession.

http://chi.247sports.com/Bolt/Chicago-Bears-explain-cause-of-Blaine-Gabbert-touchdown-run-41801681
...
When looking at the play, it looks like the Bears were going in slow motion and they weren't to bring Gabbert down. However, that is not the case because Adrian Amos and Shea McClellin said they thought Gabbert was going to slide and they did not want to hit him because they did not want to get a penalty.
...

The play of the game in the Chicago Bears game vs. the San Francisco 49ers was when Blaine Gabbert threw a 71-yard touchdown pass to Torrey Smith in overtime to give the 49ers the win.
But how and why did it happen?

Adrian Amos (#38) was the one responsible for Smith, but when he talked to reporters after the game, he said the communication was not there on that final play.

Tracy Porter was also on the field during the play and he explained that Amos was supposed to have the seam route based on the coverage they were in.

That's your rationale?

Yep. Personally I'd rather lose playing our best than to win by fluke. Winning is important but it aint everything.

WTF are you talking about?
